NFL rule - Hernando Hills Tiger - 11-01-2020 09:48 PM

So a receiver has to have both feet in bounds to make a catch but apparently a defender only needs one foot in bounds for an interception?

Does that make sense?

RE: NFL rule - Browning Hall - 11-01-2020 09:51 PM

No

RE: NFL rule - Hernando Hills Tiger - 11-01-2020 10:20 PM

Did you see the Dallas guy make the interception?

RE: NFL rule - Browning Hall - 11-01-2020 10:30 PM

No I forgot it was on. Watching now.

27 for Dallas made a diving catch with only one foot in bounds in the endzone.

The knee is considered a foot, too. His calf/shin appeared to hit the ground before the knee cap.

The knee, the foot and the calf/shin were all part of the same leg on that play.

All you have to do is be considered down inbounds...Once you are down inbounds the play is over.

Knee, Elbow, Shin, Butt...

His foot was in but his knee was out. Only one leg. A receiver needs to have both feet in. Defender obviously doesn't.

A video of the play in question would be helpful Op

RE: NFL rule - Hernando Hills Tiger - 11-04-2020 07:07 PM

That would force me to go check a dallas page who I really don't like. Then dallas commercials and popups appear everywhere.

Simple play. Diving interception before going out of bounds. Foot drug the ground and then his shin as he was going down and then the knee hits right on the boundary line.

My question is why did he only need the one foot in bounds for an interception when if this had been a receiver he would need two feet in bounds to be a catch. I'm wondering why the defender only needed one foot in bounds.

RE: NFL rule - Browning Hall - 11-04-2020 07:47 PM

4:56 mark
If I read this right, it’s either both feet in bounds or any part of the body other than the hands. They ruled his knee was down inside the line (questionable). I hope this clears this matter up.

So his foot and shin on the same leg count at 2? stoopid And it's at the 5:13 mark

I took it as either ‘two feet’ OR any other part of the body (except hands). I’m guessing the knee qualifies as any other part of the body.

The play began at the 5:04 mark. I decided to include the whole play. I was off a few seconds. Sorry if you were offended.

I'd don't follow the nfl anymore so I don't know their rules. However, I think they make it up as they go depending on the team. Which is part of the reason I don't much of any pro sport except golf. College is starting to get that way too which saddens me.

RE: NFL rule - Tiger87 - 11-05-2020 09:41 AM

I haven't seen the play and the NFL has already taken the video above down.

But I'm guessing it was a matter of him being called "down" before he went out of bounds. That's what would happen if anything other than his hand or foot hit the playing field. Going out of bounds is really irrelevant. He would be down in the field of play.

But I do agree that they seem to legislate from the field - that is, make it up on the fly.

The video is still available if you click “play on youtube”.

His shin and knee was down. This isn’t a new rule. It would have been a td for an offensive player too
