Spring Schd out now - JMUsince89 - 10-27-2020 09:47 AM

So we play 3 CAA teams home and away. Robert Morris, Morehead St at home. Feb 20 starts the play. W&M, Richmond, Elon.

RE: Spring Schd out now - Potomac - 10-27-2020 09:54 AM

So I'll ask it. What if any of those 3 CAA teams have improved? What if we've gotten worse?

This says 8-0 at face value and assuming you're facing last year's teams, but we've learned that there's always a darkhorse and you might have to play that dark horse twice.

Without a deep dive to see what each team is returning as of February 2021, I'd say Elon is the toughest team? They were right outside of the playoff hunt last year, while W&M and UR weren't even on the radar.

RE: Spring Schd out now - JMUNation - 10-27-2020 10:00 AM

The good news is that I can easily travel to each of those games. The bad news is that I am not anticipating they will be very competitive games unless those teams have greatly improved and we have gotten worse.

Looks like our bye week is the last week. Good or bad?

I think this was intentional by the CAA to allow an open weekend before the playoffs for rescheduled games that had to be postponed. Only 3 CAA games are scheduled on 4/17. All of those games are northern teams too.

At least whoever the QB is will have 8 games to warm up before the playoffs. Honestly with this schedule we may not have to throw a pass

Spring Schd out now - JMU_Newbill - 10-27-2020 11:41 AM

With all but the Elon road game residing in VA, what do you think the chances are of anyone being able to attend any of these games?

RE: Spring Schd out now - JMUrcc06 - 10-27-2020 11:44 AM

If there is no championship game and minimal at-large bids, what is the incentive for RU and W&M to field a spring team - especially in the south div? Anyone fear of these two schools going the way of TowNson and skipping spring ball altogether? Neither get their game with uva so that rivalry streak/pay day is dead and they are staring down the barrel of 4+ losses.

UR coach has already come out and said that he will be playing mostly young players. He doesn't want the vets to get drained/injured.

Sounds like they're throwing away the season.

RU coach creating built-in excuses for why his team gets crushed by Dukes.

It depends on what individual schools decide to do with their tickets, but current VA health guidelines cap attendance at sporting events at 1,000.

If that doesn't change by a game day, then you'd have to be one of the handful of general public ticket purchasers. Not all 1,000 would go to general public.

In terms of JMU, I would expect them to keep all home games as single game ticket purchases only until a vaccine is widely available. That's fall 2021 at the earliest.

Forget the global health crisis; 1000 seems about like the max draw we would get for a crowd in February to watch Morehead and Robert Morris

Hope it's on TV.

Why are we playing 3 home and homes? Such trash and such small time

I wondered the same thing, we can play Villanova, and Delaware they are bus rides from JMU. The fact Towson opted out of spring football makes us have to do the home and away gaming. At least there's 5 home games, now who gets to go watch? Going to be interesting to see how Joey D crowns the conference champ if there is a tie

Good. The later the bye, the better. I would never want an early bye. That gives your opponent a full game's experience advantage. That's a lot.

This is an interesting question given no championship game, and you could have two undefeated teams with no common opponents. If they follow the past conference tiebreaker rules, it might come down to Sagarin this year. Not a great year to have a weak schedule. Theoretically possible to go undefeated and miss the playoffs. We need to absolutely thrash these teams.

CAA tiebreakers:

1. Head-to-head competition. If three-or-more teams are involved in a tie and all have played each other, the win-loss percentage is computed using each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than individually.
2. Win-loss percentage versus the highest-placed common opponents and proceeding down. When arriving at another set of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than individually.
3. Jeff Sagarin “ELO_CHESS” computation. (Located on USAToday.com & Sagarin ratings page)

RE: Spring Schd out now - JMURocks - 10-27-2020 09:44 PM

Really don't like how CAA approached this.

Understand why Cig upset about no Conference championship game now. Its possible to miss playoffs this year for reasons out of our control. CAA did us no favors with the weak schedule and alignment.

Quote:The CAA North Division will include seven teams: Albany, Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Stony Brook and Villanova. There will be four teams in the South Division: Elon, James Madison, Richmond and William & Mary.

Teams in the North will face each other once (three home, three away), while teams in the South will meet twice, with each team getting a home and an away game. Towson announced on Oct. 19 that it would not compete during the spring season.

The team with the best overall conference record will earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA FCS playoffs. Should the divisional champions finish with the same conference record, a tie-breaking procedure will be used to determine the automatic qualifier.
