Update: As of week 12, Marshall is #15 in the AP and Coaches Poll.

If #16 SMU and #21 Minnesota lose tonight could #22 Marshall climb all the way up to #18?

Or will we fall down the rankings?

We shouldn’t fall. Indiana might pick up some votes beating Penn St. but I don’t see us falling.

I predict we end up around #19.

That would be logical, considering even in a close win today, the teams directly behind us either lost, or had close wins as well.

It's hard to say I think probably no better than #20, but shouldn't drop.

I’d say that’s pretty spot on

Unfortunately, unranked P5 teams beat ranked P5 teams. Clearly both winners and losers in these games should have been ranked, so no more room for Marshall!

This is a joke, but would anyone be shocked? Keep up the great work anyway Herd!

Coastal is going to get squeezed out most likely, if SMU loses they'll drop out, 3-2 Iowa St. drops out, NC State out, 3 - 2 Va Tech OUT, a MN loss and they're out, Indiana will likely be in, I'm sure a couple of other P5 will be added to top 25, but I don't see Marshall being squeezed out.

There's too many losses in the bottom of the Top 25 for us to drop completely. I see us hanging in the 20-23 range.

RE: What ranking will Marshall pick up tommorow? - HerdZoned - 10-24-2020 08:49 PM

I don't see Coastal getting squeezed out with a 14 point win. We should end up 19 or 20 depending on if #9 Cincy beats #16 SMU and #18 Michigan beats #21 Minnesota.

Losses
#17 Iowa State
#19 VA Tech
#23 NC State

Possible losses
#18 Michigan or #21 Minnesota (playing each other Michigan up 34-17 at the half)
#16 SMU (Currently down 14-0 to Cincy)

And that is why I think we'll end up #19.

I think the only team that could leap us is Indiana, but there were a lot of teams around us that lost, I definitely don't think we'll drop out, if anything I think we'll move up some.

We are seeing the direct results of why I posted the importance of the App State game thread.

I created that thread, noting that it was probably the most important CUSA game in over a decade. And I stick by it.

The positive rub we got from that, winning the way we did on national TV, showcasing our defense, is going to stick in the minds of voters going forward.

If we take care of business, we have a shot going forward, especially if any of the AAC teams cannibalize each other, we are right there.

Cincinnati will probably be #7 tomorrow and will probably have to lose twice for a CUSA team to overtake them in the polls.

I'm not specifically talking about jumping Cincinnati, but Cincinnati definitely has a much tougher road ahead.

They could easily lose two games, and we've seen this before, where the team from the division with the worse record ends up winning the championship. Or in the case of the American, the upset winning the championship.

agreed that UC could drop a couple. Hell they might lose to SMU tonight. Of course SMU is currently #16, so there’s that.

The Aack! isn’t using divisions this year. CCG between the 2 teams with best overall W/L record in conference games.

Not that the disions matter, but we'll see how it all plays out.

Marshall has at least put themselves in the driver's seat for that conversation. Going forward, we will have to obliterate everyone on our schedule to keep pace.

RE: What ranking will Marshall pick up tommorow? - HERDDDDD - 10-24-2020 09:48 PM

Yes I think there is a lot of parity in the AAC this year which gives us hope. Watched a little bit of Boise tonight, they look legit so that’s another problem potentially.

RE: What ranking will Marshall pick up tommorow? - rileylives - 10-24-2020 09:54 PM

I'm glad we at least picked up the App State game.

The home Boise State game would have been clutch this year.

Are they going to honor a future Huntington game?

RE: What ranking will Marshall pick up tommorow? - HerdZoned - 10-24-2020 10:23 PM

#18 Minnesota loses 49-24
#9 Cincy leading #16 SMU 21-10

RE: What ranking will Marshall pick up today? - rileylives - 10-24-2020 11:13 PM

Yes, Minnesota lost, and it appears SMU is going to lose I see Marshall ending up as high as #19.

I think Indiana will jump us, there is a very small possibility Boise State could jump us, and an even smaller possibility either Memphis, Liberty, USC or Coastal Carolina jump us.

But ultimately, I think we end up around #19.

RE: What ranking will Marshall pick up today? - THUNDERStruck73 - 10-24-2020 11:20 PM

If Cincinnati goes to #9, and continue winning, could they sniff the playoffs? I know the answer, but it is 2020 after all.
