There seems to be smoke that the WAC is talking to West Texas A&M now.

Oh. I hope it’s true. Haven’t heard any news yet around here in Amarillo.

This was predicted 5 years ago.

There are 200+ search results of DavidSt mentioning the WAC and West Texas A&M in the same post, dating back to 2015.

With potentially a third Texas school, maybe the WAC should move their headquarters to Texas. Specifically, the Dallas area. That would make I think the 17th D1 conference headquartered there.

Good find.

FYI I cross-posted it to Reddit, their twitter account (which has almost 200k followers) tweeted about it. Will be interesting to see if anyone else picks up on the story.

Or Angelo State - half as close to Tarleton as West Texas A&M

Saying something COULD happen, isn’t a prediction without a year or any context. He also says 569 other schools could join D1. He said NJIT “could” go to the MEAC, days before they announced they were joining the America East.

As a Tarleton fan, WT is a better choice than Angelo.

I'd go with Angelo St. Closer to the big TX cities.

As a WT grad, I hope this doesn’t happen. I am not against it, but think they can continue to be a top D2 program.

It's consistent with the theme of 2020...David St-radamus...

Their president also mentioned the WAC is still looking at additional members

You rang? Angelo State could be next after West Texas A&M. Like I said, the large D2 schools are not happy with where the D2 leadership taking them too. They recently approved Allen University who been having financial issues and accreditations and now Fisk University wants to join, and they are the same case as Allen. Both very small schools that can close down like the others.

WAC football:
Dixie State
Central Washington
West Texas A&M
UTRGV
Angelo State
Colorado Mesa
UCO

WAC None Football:
Seattle
California Baptist
Crand Canyon
Utah Valley
New Mexico State
Chicago State
Western Washington

WAC none football could break to reform the Great West Conference.

WAC could add Azusa Pacific as football only and the rest go to Great West.

Now we can see the WAC, Great West and Big Sky could move teams around.

Big Sky California schools can join the the WAC as football only and Sacramento State can play the other sports in the Great West.
Northern Arizona and Southern Utah to the WAC. Central Washington, Western Oregon and Colorado Mesa to the Big West.
Seattle Pacific, Concordia Irvine, CSU-L.A., San Francisco State, Fresno Pacific and Cal. Poly-Pomona to the Great West depending who can go.

WAC West:
UC-Davis
Sacramento State
Azusa Pacific
Cal. Poly
Dixie State
Southern Utah

WAC East:
West Texas A&M
UTRGV
Angelo State
Tarleton State
UCO
Midwestern State

Big Sky West:
Portland State
Western Oregon
Central Washington
Eastern Washington
Idaho
Idaho State

Big Sky East:
Weber State
Colorado Mesa
Northern Colorado
Montana
Montana State
Colorado Mines

Big West then could restart football.
Long Beach State
Fullerton State
Northridge State
UC-Davis
Cal. Poly
Sacramento State
Azusa Pacific
San Diego

WAC could then move West Texas A&M Angelo State to the west and add CSU-Pueblo and Mines. On the east, they can add Kingsville and Commerce. That would be the possible outcome. Chicago State will moved on by then.

Need more in the central plains to move up. Fort Hays State to the Big Sky not a bad idea either.

A lot of us have been calling this one for some time. I think it’s only a matter of time before the other bigger Lone Star schools come over. Maybe a Colorado school or two also.

Dixie St, Tarleton St, and WTAMU could all play in season home-and-homes until more WAC FCS schools are secured. That would take care of 4 of the 11 slots on the schedule.

RE: Miracle on David Street: WAC has added its 10th member - MWC Tex - 10-01-2020 07:11 AM

I’d like to see the Gorillas of Pittsburg St (KS) move up.

RE: Miracle on David Street: WAC has added its 10th member - Michael in Raleigh - 10-01-2020 08:23 AM

It's hard to believe the WAC once had Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, BYU, Colorado State, and several other fairly prominent D1 schools.

Of course, a fair argument can be made that the WAC of old is now known as the Mountain West.

DavidSt,

You've heard Fisk wants to join the WAC?

I live in Nashville and find that hard to fathom. FU did hire former NBA player Kenny Anderson as men's hoops coach recently, so efforts are being made to upgrade athletics, but ...

Fisk wants to join D2.
