Rice and C-USA's reluctance to make up game may end up screwing UAB - blazerjay - 09-18-2020 10:31 AM

Looks like Rice is backing away from even trying to make up the game against UAB. That along with C-USA's puzzling reluctance to schedule replacement matchups for teams affect through no fault of their own could very well possibly end up screwing UAB (and Marshall) out of eligibility to win our respective divisions.

With ODU opting out and Rice pulling this on us, we are hanging onto to conference eligibility by our fingernails. If we were to lose one more conference game we would likely fall below the eligibility line.
Ingram has to be proactive and get on this NOW and demand that either the Rice game be officially rescheduled for 12/5 OR Rice be required to forfeit (as they could field a team, but are just choosing not to) OR we be allowed to play Marshall on our now common open date as a countable conference game for both teams. This would give UAB and Marshall a cushion on the razor thin margin of error both schools now find themselves with thanks to ODU and Rice. Now is the time for UAB to look out for it's own interests and not continue to meekly go along with the inane lack of leadership at the conference level.

The Big XII put rules in place defining what circumstances would allow a game to be postponed and what would require a team to forfeit. I'm sure no one is surprised that Conference USA is taking a hands off approach.

Conference Division championship eligibility.
Any conference team that plays at least 1 fewer conference game than the average number of conference games played by other members participating in a fall schedule is eligible for the championship. Meaning if the average number of conference games remains at 7, any school playing 6 or more will be eligible for the championship. We currently have 6 conference games scheduled. If, for example, Western Kentucky were to have to cancel on us, but all other currently scheduled conference games were played...the avg. number of conference games played would remain at 7 but we would, through no fault of our own be relegated to playing only 5, rendering us ineligible to win the division. Even with 2 of our missed games being from the east. Is this scenario likely? No...but it is certainly a possibility that needs to be addressed.

On the championship game remaining to be scheduled for 12/5.

Yet another reason to get out of this conference. If Rice doesn't want to play, they should have to forfeit.

I don't usually make an issue of things, but I just emailed ADMI with this info and my concerns. Hopefully we can make this an issue, since the Conference apparently isn't too concerned.

We currently have 6 from ODU and Rice cancellations, & Rice currently has 6 with them canceling the Marshall and UAB games. UTSA would have 7, due to the ODU cancellation. Currently USM, La Tech, North Texas, and UTEP have 8 CUSA games scheduled.

USM could be sitting in the drivers seat the last week of the season and pull out of our game in that situation as well. Rules need to be established immediately.

You're right. I knew something was off. I have corrected the original post, but the averages remain at 7.

Excellent point.

Betting the season gets extended a week and we end up playing Rice that week and if they can’t do it we pick up someone else.
