My wife and I are planning a trip to where we began our marriage in early October. This will be a ten year anniversary, but we want nostalgia and exploration. I was stationed near LR at the time, so we'll spend a few nights in a loft in the rivermarket area. We are considering a cabin on the little red for the following 2 nights with fishing and such. I'd love to know your thoughts on the final 2 nights. I am considering the Bentonville/Fayetteville area with a guided float trip on the White. If you had to plan an in-state staycation, what would you do?

Agreed, Eureka Springs is one of the most unique cities in the country.
I've lived in Fayetteville going on four years now. The area is experiencing tremendous growth and has a lot of natural beauty.
Aside from Eureka, I would recommend a drive down the pig trail and then some hiking along the Buffalo River. Cabins will be difficult to reserve now for October but you might get lucky. Could also stay in Fayetteville and just make a day trip of it.

I third Eureka Springs. Weather should be nice, foilage will be turning. I read an article recently that things have really picked back up and Eureka had a really good August with taxes/sales being higher than the previous year, after being really slow in June/July. You could also check out Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville if you haven't been there. There's a few breweries and a distillery in downtown LR if that's your thing. There's a couple breweries over in NLR too.

hot springs..mt. magazine..eureka springs and up to branson, mo..pig trail is a nice ride..in fact there are many ride rides/drives in the state ..the Arkansas Grand canyon/Jasper..Mystic caverns..others

I'm an old guy but I like deep in the Ozarks and away from people. Look up Creekside cabin in Jasper, Arkansas. Go hike Round Top mountain. Avoid the lower loop. Go for the north and south overlook and the western trail. About 2 hours before sunset head for Boxly valley and go elk watching. Early in the morning is good as well. There's also a very smooth/easy trail in that same area called the Lost Valley trail. Someone mentioned Crystal Bridges. You can hit it from the Jasper/Compton area with a 2 hour drive. Worth the effort. World class. If it has been raining there's the Glory Hole (I didn't name it) waterfall. The creek has drilled a hole in the limestone cliff and the water fall goes through it. So much nature in that area. And I hate Eureka with a passion. Back in the day it was great but now it's only one notch down from Branson on the scale of tourist hell.
One note on Creekside. If it rains a ton be prepared to wait out the creek going down. You have to cross a low water bridge to get in there. If you want more remote than that I have another one. Let me know.

Stayed at Cliff House Inn outside of Jasper and enjoyed it. Some decent restaurants in the area.
I’m headed to Crystal Bridges for the umpteenth time this fall for a special Ansel Adams exhibit.

I've never stayed there. I've eaten at the cafe that overlooks the mountains there. Not the greatest food but the view makes up for it. Ansel Adams is worth the time. Caught the show of his work at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock. As an old photographer I can tell a story about how I stuck my foot all the way down my throat in Jackson Hole one day regarding his work but that's another story for another day.

if you are in the "greater" Jasper area...go to a small town called Ponca...ask the locals where to pick up the trail to Big Bluff. Pretty easy, well improved trail...it will take you out on Big Bluff about 450 feet above the Buffalo National River...BEAUTIFUL up there...I'm thinking they actually call this the Goat Trail...it has been quite a few years since I've been there...you won't find the trail head on a map...ask the locals. And just down the road is a trail that goes to Hawksbill Crag (real name Whitaker Point)...this is probably the most photographed place in all of Arkansas....very nice indeed.

Eat at Low Gap. Building pretty much standing, smells vaguely of old men but food is really good. Guy was a chef in Vegas who moved to Branson to get away from it all, concluded Branson was too big and crowded and ended up out in the middle of nowhere.
