Do you think all 12 people stayed up for the 2nd half?

It was on ESPN, so Im sure there were a lot more than 12 people. I had relatives in Florida with no ties to either school who were watching simply because it was on, and called me (knowing Im a big ODU fan) during the game to say "isnt ODU in UAB's conference?" And wondering if they could check out an ODU game on ESPN sometime. I hated to tell them yes, same conference, but no, we chose not to play this year.

Im sure more folks watched the game last night since it was on ESPN than watched the MTSU/ODU game on Fox (got to go back that far to find a comparable ODU game), and we thought that exposure was the greatest thing ever.

With NFL and NBA on, I really feel for people watching UAB vs. South alabama :)

I was actually being sarcastic though. But people make a big deal of these things and I don't think it makes nearly as much of a difference as some people assume. The Friday Night game was fun despite it probably being poorly viewed. Our game vs. Wake on Friday night would have been fun...but its not like I believe recruits are going to be sitting home saying I really gotta go to ODU since they were on ESPN. Maybe before the internet...

Thats probably where we differ. I think recruits do take notice of who is playing on television and thats where they want to be seen too. If a recruit has an offer from a school who has 3 or 4 games on national tv (or more) each year vs. a school with 1 or 2 on local television and the rest online, I think they go with the TV school if everything else is pretty even. Its even worse for basketball, where being on TV is not only important to recruits, but gets you seen in by the selection committee too. This football season has been a huge opportunity for G5 schools to show the country what they can do and build their brands. Im happy for the Marshalls and UABs (and the So Ala, and Apps). It just sucks that we chose sitting on the sidelines while everyone else is making the most of the situation.

I don't see how it does. The kids we're recruiting won't come in until the next year or two years later. The things that we think will make them choose ODU -- new stadium, new coach, good fanbase when we're not in the toilet -- haven't changed.

If anything, not playing this year might make it easier for recruiting because most likely ODU was going to have another losing season -- it's still a clean sheet, and there's no reason to explain away a 3-9 record.

If someone doesn't choose ODU because they chose not to play this season based on what they considered to be (and may still be) a scientifically sound argument, then they would have not chosen ODU for any number of reasons.

A school that cancels football when other schools in the conference are playing tells that recruit that this school doesn't take football seriously. That this is not a football school. That football is not important to the school.

On another note - Florida has lifted all restrictions at bars and restaurants - waiting to see when they will lift it on attending sporting events.

Needed appropriate emphasis.

No it doesn't and i'm not sure any recruit with a lick of sense would think that way.

In case there was any doubt, ODU will make it clear very shortly that there will be no football whatsoever until Fall 2021.

That would certainly explain the $67.5 million stadium that opened last year. That's a common move for schools that don't consider football important.

It'd also explain why they hired a coordinator from one of the most powerful and storied programs of all time to be their head coach. Everyone knows that's a white flag.

I would love to have ODU football right now. But most of the P5 is not playing yet so the opportunities for G5 on TV are good now. But I don't think it will last and I'm not sure recruits will remember come November. They will have to hunt and peck to watch G5 games.

No longer a surprise, but there goes spring football. I cant believe that ODU and UConn are the only two teams that cant seem to figure out how to play safely. As my buddy always says, "its hard being a Monarch fan".
