Notre Dame hosts USF September 19 - quo vadis - 08-28-2020 04:52 AM

Didn't see a post on this, apologies if there has been one.

Coolest thing is it will be part of a 2 for 1 that will bring the Irish to Tampa at a future date.

Congratulations to the USF Athletic Department for making this happen!

Will be there fans permitting.

This would be a good year for overweight fans who normally watch from home to try going to games, due to the increased spacing of crowds.

The last time i checked, ND was still finalizing its policy. I *think* they plan to have fans, but a vastly reduced number, at home games.

Yep, great get for USF. We now have future home games with Bama, Florida and Notre Dame. Not everybody agrees with our scheduling philosophy, but as a season ticket holder, I'm pretty stoked about it.

Strong for USF and the AAC. I like it.

USF hasn't won much on the field the last couple of years, but I think our scheduling philosophy, our willingness to do 2-1 deals *with big names* has beaten the defiant "nothing but home and homes with P5" that others, like that school to the northeast, have tried to push.

Great job by our Athletic Department.

The only time USF has played Notre Dame was a one-shot game nine years ago, on September 3, 2011.

What I remember was, there is someone who posted to this board who is an Irish fan and lived in Baton Rouge at the time, and I asked him if he wanted to get together and watch the game, my USF vs his and my Irish. He politely declined.

So I watched at home by myself. Notre Dame was a large favorite but as it turned out, USF won 23-20, and the way we won was in the most frustrating way possible for an Irish fan - Notre Dame dominated the game, rolled up like twice as many yards, moved up and down the field, etc. but USF scored on some crazy plays like a 90 yard fumble return. Basically, ND lost because they made a number of mind-boggling turnovers that USF capitalized on. I remember we also got at least one interception in their end zone when they were deep in our territory.

There was also IIRC a big lightning delay in the game, the first time that had ever happened at Notre Dame, which must have added to ND ire.

I remember thinking after it was over - "if I were him I probably would have thrown a shoe through my TV set", LOL.

I remember watching Tulsa pick up a win at ND several years back. Hopefully the Bulls can do the same!

Video includes lightning delays.

(Love watching Notre Dame games when their field was natural grass, no logo, etc. before Swarbrick sucked away the stadium's personality.)

I don't recall that game but you take a win vs. ND any way you can get it.

I'm with you 100 percent on the 2-for-1's for AAC teams vs. P5.

Good luck to the Bulls when you battle the Irish (I kind of like Notre Dame due to personal/cultural factors but I will pull for the AAC/USF).

I was there for the whole thing, including the multiple building evacuations. It was a long day, but completely worth it! Gave birth to the red faced Brian Kelly picture:

I will not go this year, but would probably make the trip for the future game. South Bend for a Notre Dame football game should be on everybody's bucket list.

Kayvon Webster going 99 yards. Great play in USF history.

That picture of Brian Kelly is awesome!
Blaming everyone but himself at that exact moment, his modus operandi ways of doing things.

That school to the NE has an on-campus stadium and more than double the season ticket holders. You need the one to sell season tickets and to break even for the year, since you're charging over $100 for upper deck tickets for that game.

But UCF isn't getting any big P5 opponents. IIRC, they have only been able to wrangle programs like Georgia Tech, UNC, Pitt, and Louisville.

What UCF has been doing is working. You cannot argue with results on the field and growing a season ticket holder base. Sure USF will have a few of these games, I would love it if UCF got them too, but in the grand scheme of things, what UCF managed to do was build a name from the pits crap, and now is persistent preseason top 25 team that usually stays there through the season and sure as hell gets talked about a lot, positively and negatively by the national media.... and in this game of popularity contests, there is no such thing as negative press.

Not to mention their bestest superfan, Quo... Hell, the ACC has to reward him for suffering through the dark aac years. Since obviously USF can't go to the BE, the ACC has to be the next best thing.
