SOunds like ND and Clemson were allies to push for a season to be played - domer1978 - 08-26-2020 11:13 AM

That didn't happen. And if you're looking for another reason to hate Notre Dame, now you have it.

"Notre Dame really wanted to play and was willing to enter into an agreement that could lead to something down the road ... at the very least, more games every year against ACC teams," an insider shared. "They're adamance about playing was the ace-in-the-hole a group, led by Clemson, needed to really push for a season and turn the tide in favor of ignoring the Big Ten.

"I mean, if Notre Dame, with their academic reputation and their national brand, was willing to go forward ... it sort of just sealed the ACC's fate."

While the ACC and the SEC were not entirely on the same page (look at how they had different approaches to non-conference contests), they each provided the other with enough cover to plot out a season. The Big 12, and most prominently Texas, which didn't want to lose ground to the SEC powers while already trying to play catch-up, pushed forward too.

Wait, what?

The "parasites" may have saved the season for Clemson and the ACC, you say?

To be fair, that's a Michigan Wolverine statement - the ACC is quite happy with Notre Dame at the moment.

I did not put that, it was in the article. Bad quoting job by me.

No problem. Any time you guys want to stick it to the Big Ten, go right ahead!

I read the B1G is currently considering playing football in January, in a group of domed stadiums including - wait for it - Syracuse!

ND football just got here. It hasn't even played a game yet and its done Clemson and the rest of the ACC a solid.

You're welcome. :)

P.S. You are also incorrect.

Add up the basketball credits from two Elite 8's, the additional football tickets sold at ACC/ND games the last six years (why were Wake and Georgia Tech moving ND games to NFL stadiums ?) and the assist with the ACC Network (and maybe the GOR) and get back to me.

All that for $6.8 million a year? Shoot, ND is a great deal for the ACC.

And better bowl game leverage.

These were all reasons why I did not care if ND stayed Indy, far from being "parasites".

Hopefully, they will help secure a deal with Xfinity soon also.

False. We added exactly zero bowls when we added the parasites, and if anything we downgraded replacing the Peach as our top non-NY6 game with the kid sister of the Citrus Bowl.

Since then we've signed a new bowl contract that really isn't any better than the last. We lose Shreveport and Detroit, but we pick up a falling in stature Holiday Bowl and another cold weather baseball stadium game in Boston in their place.

So where exactly did the parasites exert this "better bowl game leverage"?

Unfortunately it doesn't look like we will be able to call them "parasites" too much longer.

I prefer they stay independents with the current FB agreement because, right now you get to play them on average of once every 3 years. Put them in the other division of 8 teams and you'll play them once every 7 years and that's playing a 9 game conference schedule with 1 permanent partner.

If we can dispense with the NCAA we can create a 4 school playoff for the league title based on just 8 conference games.

Who wants go to a bowl game in Detroit or Shreveport? Anywhere else is an upgrade to either of those ratholes, especially warm and sunny San Diego.

I'm sure the ACC will love the idea of the Big Ten playing games at one of its school facilities.

I imagine the Big Ten must have been red faced and shameful to come hat in hand, asking an ACC school to let it use its facility.
