and 2 spots ahead of Florida St

RE: Tigers #13 in SI Football poll - tigerengineer - 08-25-2020 12:17 PM

They suck at math. Their logic for a top 16 poll is that 3/5 of the power 5 are playing so 16 is 3/5 of 25. It's not. 15 is 3/5 of 25.

RE: Tigers #13 in SI Football poll - Mimi - 08-25-2020 03:10 PM

In 6 years of playoffs there have been 4 Big Ten teams, Ohio State three times and Michigan State once, and 2 PAC Twelve teams, Oregon and Washington once each.

A handful of years Ohio State was likely the first team out too

So between the two conferences they average one spot a year

This COULD be the year for an undefeated Memphis or Boise State to end up in the top four.

Lol...Would be nice...

But where did UCF end up after winning like 30 in a row. I don't think it was 6th.

totally different deal in Covid 2020 football without 9 ranked teams...if we TCB, and that means winning at Cincy, mimi may be right

Two from the SEC...

One from the ACC and one from the BIG12.

We would need to TCB and for the winner of the AAC or the big12 to have 2 losses.

Exactly and more than possible because of the circumstances

No gimme / buy games / no opportunity for mulligan
All tough conference games

Win the AAC, go unbeaten and see where the chips fall

No question

It is slim but still much more possible without an Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon etc. possibly in front

RE: Tigers #13 in SI Football poll - Keeper - 08-25-2020 10:45 PM

The Tigers will play anywhere from 3 to 5 ranked teams this schedule can produce an invite to the national invitation tournament. You know before the NCAA grew a pair of basketballs the NIT was the premier tournament?

RE: Tigers #13 in SI Football poll - Tiger87 - 08-26-2020 06:56 AM

I've always believed and loudly proclaimed, a G5 team will never be invited to the 4-team CFP. However, these are unbelievable times. If it could ever happen, it is now. It is still dangerous for the power structure to allow this to happen. What happens if a G5 team actually wins a game? Even though it would have an asterisk, that could threaten the pie in future years.

So it's still a longshot, meaning few things have to happen:
1. The AAC champ has to be undefeated - and has to be either Memphis, Cincy, or UCF.
2. The top of the AAC has to roll through the conference. Memphis, Cincy, UCF, and probably one other team need to beat pretty much all others. This keeps us all propped up and makes our games against each other big-time games.
3. The AAC champ has to look good on national tv - like we have the last 3 years. Good qb and big plays (i.e. not Navy).
4. The ACC or B12 champ needs 2 losses. One loss might actually work, if it's a "bad" loss - especially in the weak ACC (as long as the champ is not Clemson).
5. If #4 fails, then the second team in the SEC needs at least 2 losses INCLUDING one bad loss.

Still a tough row, but this could be a "never say never" year.
Assuming the season even makes it to the CFP, which I'd actually bet against right now.

Point 3 is going to be hard for the Tigers, because we are doing 12ft social distancing. The lack of crowds is going to look TERRIBLE on TV.

Yup the SEC team needs to lose to ole Miss or Vandy.

They cant lose to Alabama twice...OR they still get in.

If Bama doesn't play, no one does.

https://www.fox5ny.com/news/tuscaloosa-closes-bars-after-university-of-alabama-reports-more-than-500-covid-19-cases-last-week
Quote: At least 531 students, faculty, and staff on the University of Alabama's main campus in Tuscaloosa have been infected with the virus, officials reported.

As a result, the mayor of Tuscaloosa announced Monday that the city is closing bars for the next two weeks after University of Alabama officials described an “unacceptable” rise in COVID-19 cases that could derail plans to continue the semester on campus.

Or maybe throw Arkansas a bone and let them win one. :-)

Tigers are # 1 in my personal preference poll. All the other polls are meaningless.
