Kenosha, Wisconsin Riot/Burning Day 5 (2 Dead) - CrimsonPhantom - 08-24-2020 02:25 PM

Quote:A police officer-involved shooting on Sunday of a Black man who was shot in the back set off violent protests in the lakefront city of Kenosha,Wis., that have lasted into the early hours Monday.

Many details of the shooting were not immediately clear, but the following unrest prompted the city to issue a curfew until 7 a.m. on Monday and police asked businesses to consider staying closed “due to numerous arm robberies and shots fired calls.”

Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, issued a statement late Sunday and said Jacob Blake was shot in broad daylight.

“What we know for certain is that he is not the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country,” he said. Evers promised that there will be accountability.

Kenosha is the latest city to see unrest amid widespread protests after George Floyd died in police custody in May.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that police were dispatched on a domestic violence call at about 5:11 p.m. prior to the shooting. The report said that officers administered aid to Blake, who was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

Julian Castro, the former 2020 Democrat presidential hopeful, retweeted a purported video of the shooting that appeared to show officers yelling at Blake as he tried to walk around an SUV and get into a driver’s side seat. One of the officers appears to hold Blake by his shirt and open fire.

“Police in Kenosha, Wisconsin appear to shoot a man seven times in the back at point blank range after he ignores commands,” Castro tweeted. “We’re (sp) no other non-lethal methods considered, @KenoshaPolice?”

The Journal-Sentinel reported that a large crowd appeared at the scene and small fires were set in the street. One video purported to show a police officer knocked out during a protest. One person could be heard saying, "He got bricked."

Marchers also headed to the Kenosha County Public Safety Building, which authorities had mostly blocked off. Protesters marched along lines of cars honking on their way to the station and eventually made their way to the rear parking lot. A man could be seen breaking the window of a patrol car parked along the street. Some police officers were positioned on the roof of the station as people continued toward the building.

Outside the station, protesters faced off with officers who were dressed in riot gear that included plastic facemasks and held plastic shields and batons that they occasionally used to push people back.

News reporters at the protest posted videos of a dump truck on fire and confrontations between police and protesters. The paper reported that a fire was set outside the city's courthouse, which was also graffitied.

The police department issued a statement confirming the shooting and said the sheriff’s department and Wisconsin State Patrol have taken over the scene. The state’s Department of Justice and its Division of Criminal Investigation will investigate the shooting.

"Things have been very heated, tons of damage to cop cars, an officer was actually knocked out," one person filming said, according to the paper.

I guess a society that thinks they can do what the hell they want when confronted by the police, will never like the outcome.

Must be one stupid, cowardly, idiot of a cop to do that when so many eyes are on the police. He needs to be charged and arrested.

No doubt the guy was wrong walking away from the police and if they had tackled him, tazed him, etc. it would have been in their rights. Shooting the guy 7x in the back is just ridiculous though.

Nice of the governor to throw the police under the bus without knowing the whole story. For all we know there could have been a weapon in the car.

The reports I've seen state they had already physically fought him and unsuccessfully deployed a taser on the suspect. I guess in your expert opinion they should have simply allowed him to get in the vehicle and either retrieved a weapon or turned the vehicle into a weapon, putting the officers and bystanders safety at risk.

Who wants to bet there will eventually be footage showing him reaching under the seat for something. He was obviously ignoring directions to 'halt' and going to his vehicle for something.

If you don't follow police commands, you better be prepared to suffer the consequences.

Also, that dude who pulled a gun on a sheriff's vehicle...

RE: Kenosha, Wisconsin Riot/Burning - BuffaloTN - 08-24-2020 03:12 PM

How not to get shot by the police.

1. Obey commands when given.
2. Don't resist and walk to your car.
3. Don't open the car door.
4. Don't reach into your car to get something when guns are drawn on you.

You won't get shot. I guarantee you.

So the governor pronounces the officer guilty of first degree murder within hours of the incident.

Can't get a fair trial in that state.

Reading the twittersphere (so who knows...?) he had been tased twice already. No real affect I guess?

Read above, he also had a warrant and charges for pulling a handgun and pointing it at people in a bar. So he pretty clearly owned a gun.
Did the cops know that already? Did they know the guy from priors?

Dunno. But like most (not all) there’ll be more to the story. But, in the meantime innocent people’s life’s work will be burned to the ground just cuz.

Makes no damn sense.

They are trained to shoot until they are down. If they reload, then yes, you have good reason to criticize. Otherwise, you watch too much TV thinking one shot does it every time.

If he was disobeying the officers and reaching into his car, it was entirely justified. We should wait for the facts.

So. I'm gonna go ahead and put Wisconsin in the Trump column. This should go on until November.

RE: Kenosha, Wisconsin Riot/Burning - banker - 08-24-2020 03:43 PM

Well, I’m willing to assume he was going for his gun in the truck. I’m also willing to assume the cops were very familiar with this guy. I will believe that they tased him twice with no effect. If so then I also have to assume he was on drugs.

I would ask why they didn’t restrain him before he got to the suv? They had manpower there. Makes me wonder if they were worried about being too aggressive. In an attempt to not look like they were beating him up did they give him enough freedom to get himself shot?

It really is a no win situation for cops.

Some cops can be so stupid. They are the type that never learn past indiscretions by other departments. They KNOW that the nation right now is walking on egg shells with all the rioting and what happens? This happens. What did they expect was going to happen from their actions.

Like we say in EP, "bola de pendejos". Bunch of idiots. Or as Siri likes to define it, "a stupid or contempible person".

So, are you saying the police should have waited until he reached into his truck and started shooting at them before they shot? Sounds like Obama rules of engagement.

This Shiite is gonna get Trump re-elected

Since the other moron is too gutless to answer and you are following his lead I'll ask the same of you:

Another case of criminal elements deciding to take advantage of a police shooting in the name of BLM. This is now the standard MO for any incident that ends up with a black person dying at the hands of the police. They have no inclination to wait until an investigation is done.

I hate to see anyone pumped full of bullets by the police unless they are actively harming someone and give them no choice...but..Id bet my next paycheck there is much more to this story. Unlike the thugs that took to the streets and destroyed the livelyhoods of dozens of business owners..Ill wait and see the evidence that led the officers to kill this guy.

What is BLM going to say if there was a firearm in the vehicle?

Interesting
