Aresco get on the phone to Nebraska - Do it now! - UCGrad1992 - 08-11-2020 11:36 PM

I posted this over on the Bearcat Banter board...

Yeah, probably a long shot for several reasons but what the heck. Cincinnati already had Nebraska as an OOC game this season and Scott Frost was the former coach at UCF and UGone opens up an available spot if you go back to divisions. Nebraska in the AAC for the fall would be intriguing indeed...

B1G [not surprisingly] says no way...

Quote:After twice evading the question on the Big Ten Network, Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren, in an interview with Yahoo! Sports, said Nebraska is not allowed to pursue a fall football schedule after the league chose to postpone its season until spring 2021.

"No," Warren said to Yahoo! “Not and be a member of the Big Ten Conference.”

In a brief statement released after the Big Ten announced its decision to postpone, all of NU's leaders — from Frost to NU President Ted Carter — announced Nebraska was still looking to play this fall.

"We will continue to consult with medical experts and evaluate the situation as it emerges," the statement concluded. "We hope it may be possible for our student athletes to have the opportunity to compete.”

Earlier Tuesday, Warren twice told the Big Ten Network that discussing Nebraska's interest was a different issue for a different day.

“I know what was said,” Warren said on Big Ten Network, referring to Monday comments from NU coach Scott Frost related to the Huskers pursuing their own schedule. “These are things that I’m sure there will be a lot of issues that arise and be raised that we’ll address at the appropriate time. Today’s not the appropriate time on some issues.”

You Play, You Out

Warren is not going to survive as commissioner of the B10 especially if Fall football is relatively successful with few outbreaks of COVID. Recruiting too will be devastating for years to come if all goes well. The only way Nebraska and Iowa plays this year in another conference is if Ohio St decides to move forward anyway to play, as I can guarantee you that B10 will not refused their premiere team

Liability was their major concern as stated on ESPN yesterday. The long term effects of this virus are not know similar to the NFL concussion suits with lingering symptoms literally a lifetime in play. The Presidents made this call - their legal teams could not tell them they were protected. Presidents to Conf Commissioner to announcement.

Football coaches and ADs are way down the totem pole on this.

Both subsets are talking a lot of talk right now because their literal jobs depend on it.

It doesn’t matter that the Presidents made the call, Warren will ultimately take the fall if things go well this season for the other conferences. These Presidents are going to feel the pressure if recruiting takes a big hit, as it’s already is according to some reports and the scapegoat will be Warren who agreed to what they wanted

If I'm Nebraska I'd play both. Double dip and rake that cash in lol.

What about liability if players are released from football, go home and contract the disease there with serious complications? Saul Goodman could make the case that had football NOT been cancelled, the players would not have been sent home to less structured environments and no medical care. Therefore, the decision to NOT play increased the risk to the player.

You can be sued at any time for any thing by anybody. Trust me on this one. Lawsuits are likely to come either way.

Big 12 is where they belong anyway. Missouri too ... but that's another day.

1) If players are released from football they still stay on campus - first and foremost they are students and have been on campus for over a month now. No one on the university side has ever stated they were going to be sent home.

2) If a player decides to go home or to do things on campus those are personal decisions not one endorsed and rolled out by a conference to play a sport

This whole cancel football situation is going to blow up like that factory in Lebanon.

Don't be surprised if we end up seeing the AMERICAN Conference move up into the power conference ranks real soon.

Especially if we stay away from politics because the mass majority has spoken and do NOT want it in sports.

Just take a look at the NBA ratings for a good example.

It's amazing watching the talking heads argue about how "disrespectful" Nebraska is when they are doing their peaceful protest. Like "HOW DARE YOU" protest against the decision of the conference.

Easy solution... Play the season, explain the potential risks to the players (which football is already packed with extreme physical risks) and then give players the option to accept the risks and play or sit a season the season and remain on scholarship.

Now, players have the option to accept the risk and play or choose to sit without penalty or repercussion from the school. Seems like the problem is solved...
