I'm sure Air Force wouldn't just be able to go to the AAC for this year. Media rights, exit fees, etc will prevent such a thing happening.

Everybody gets their home TV rights. Just do a scheduling agreement. Navy would be for it.

Don't have to be eligible for the title. There were years where teams outside the SEC played as many or more games than some of the SEC schools. In the 60s some only played 5 conference games.

I still don’t get the old days when you had conferences where hardly anyone actually played each other

Their conference already took their vote, the AAC isn't a homeless shelter. When we finally figure out who's playing this year the schedules will be finalized and we'll play.

In spite of having only 3 (and possibly only 2) games on the current schedule, BYU still preparing as if they will be able to get more games arranged:

We will fight, day or night, rain or snow. (from the school fight song)

Ehhh---basically the MW is in breach of contract as they were supposed to supply Air Force with 8 games this year. Furthermore, the MW did so just weeks before the start of the season.

As for exit fees---there would be no exit fee. Air Force isnt leaving the MW. The MW actually left AF this fall. The TV deal could be worked out. Its not that complicated. AF home games go to the MW networks. AF road games go to ESPN.

That said, I do agree its easier for the AAC to just let BYU sign a one year deal to be the 12th team for the 2020 season. Its not like its a lifetime commitment. It would just be an emergency deal that bails out BYU (an ESPN property) and gives the AAC an incredibly unique and interesting story line for the year.

I'd love for App to play BYU. Wanted to for years. My best friend and his entire family went to BYU. It would be the weirdest Saturday ever at my house with a bunch of Mormons trying to pretend they haven't been sneaking beers.

If a season happens, BYU will have no problem getting Road games vs ACC and probably B12. Home games will be the issue. If CUSA and Belt hold on and play they will find a few games there. May have to sign some home and homes promising games in later years at the other schools stadiums.

Big South pushing conference play to the spring, but allowing non-conference games in the fall at each school's discretion. I guess we'll see if the North Alabama - BYU game sticks.

And due to extenuating circumstances beyond the conference's control they are not able to provide 8 games in a manner they believe would be safe for their college athletes. And if Air Force even tried to take it to court (which they wouldn't) they wouldn't win.

https://roarlions.com/news/2020/8/12/una-hopes-to-play-four-game-fall-football-schedule.aspx

The University of North Alabama will have the opportunity to play four games on its 2020 fall football schedule, despite the announcement today that the Big South Conference is delaying its fall seasons with the intent of playing in the spring.

The Big South Football Members voted to allow up to four non-conference games in the fall at institutional discretion. UNA's current fall schedule would include games against Western Illinois, Jacksonville State, Chattanooga and Brigham Young.

RE: BYU 2020 schedule - games trickling out, being captured here - Stugray2 - 08-12-2020 12:22 PM

Western Illinois is in the MVFC and they cancelled fall football, although members can play OOC games. That is largely interpreted to meant revenue games. UNA is not a revenue game.

Dixie State football postponed until spring so no FCS game there.

As it stands right now, BYU is the only college football team in the western part of the nation that is attempting to play college football this fall. Air Force may attempt to play Army and Navy. Otherwise, college football has been canceled at every level of play out west for this fall (D1,D2,D3).

Yet another plus to being independent--or they would have been shut down with the rest of the schools. Rival fans no doubt will continue with this being evidence of BYU being selfish, callous, not team players with potential conference mates, etc.

In this scenario, it works to be Indy. Otherwise....not do much

UTEP is also in the mtn time zone and still planning to play.

I'd be cool with that. Get some old WAC foes back together for another game.
