Covid on CBHS Football Team - Marc Mensa - 07-22-2020 03:46 PM

Anyone hearing of a Covid outbreak on the CBHS Football team? My son, who knows many on the team, said a number of boys had tested positive and they stopped practices for 7 days. Just curious if anyone else had heard similar. Might just be a rumor.

Although not technically proven, there was an outbreak at another local private school way back in December. Family member of a student was a frequent business traveler to China. The student got sick for about 2 weeks. Subsequently, so did many other students and all flu tests came back negative. Had to be covid

COVID-19 is everywhere now. If you test for it you will find it.

Know your 'enemy'. lol

There is more than one strain. One is more contagious, but does not seem to be more deadly. Good news.

D614 and G614.

The S spike protein on the surface of the corona virus picks the lock to gain entry to cells ... it used to break off more often when attempting entry to ACE2 receptors—molecules on the surface of cells throughout the body with high concentrations in the lungs.

The spikes do not make it more likely to reproduce—good news sorta. Some say the goal of a virus is to live within the host but not kill the host population. I’m thinking horror movie. lol. It is not known if each strain results in equal antibodies.

In conclusion, friends Romans and countrymen, EVERY strain is not everywhere.

I suppose... just seems like it’s going to be a challenge keeping it from exploding in schools.

Indeed.

It's a disaster waiting to happen.

But kids don't get sick...

So why worry?

Drove by CBHS Tuesday. Big sign out front said "Facilities closed until further notice". On one of the side fields was what appeared to be the football team doing their workouts outdoors. I guess a field is not "facilities".

Hearing from MUS students that there have been Covid cases on their football team too. Setting up for a chaotic fall.
