Top Returning Players AAC (Updated) - StillJonesing - 07-13-2020 10:03 AM Statistically, now that teams are returning to campus and the dust is mostly settled. I choose conference only play since it was a very similar SOS for each team and eliminated more variance in OOC SOS everyone complained about. It was the larger portion of the season and a large 18 game sample size. It was also the later half of the year which indicates more about where players were at when the year ended. by Player Efficiency Rating in conference only 1....22.4 Jayden Gardner ECU 2....19.6 Tristen Newton ECU 3....19.3 Kendric Davis SMU 4....18.9 Keith Williams Cincinnati 5....18.7 Mamoudou Diarra Cincinnati 6....18.4 Collin Smith UCF 7....18.2 Caleb Mills Houston 8...18.1 Darrin Green UCF 9...17.8 Feron Hunt SMU 10...17.6 Chris Vogt Cincinnati 11...17.0 Tyson Jolly SMU 12...16.9 Dexter Dennis WSU 13...16.9 Madut Akec USF 14...16.3 Michael Durr, USF 15...16.2 Justin Brown USF 16...15.7 Dejon Jarreau Houston 17...15.2 Brison Gresham Houston 18...14.9 Darien Jackson Tulsa 19...14.6 Teshaun Hightower Tulane 20...14.4 Marcus Sasser Houston 21...14.2 Brandon Mahan UCF 22...14.0 Trey Wade WSU 23...13.9 Brandon Suggs ECU 24...13.8 Ethan Chargois SMU 25...13.7 Malcolm Dandridge, Memphis 26...13.3 Quentin Grimes Houston 27...13.2 Brandon Rachael Tulsa 28...12.7 Jordan Walker Tulane 28...12.7 Jake Forrester Temple 30...12.5 Lester Quinones Memphis 31...12.3 De'Vondre Perry Temple 32...12.2 Tyson Eteinne WSU 33...12.0 Elijah Joiner Tulsa 34...11.9 Lance Thomas Memphis In Win Shares conference only 1...2.2...Kendric Davis SMU 2...2.1...Keith Williams Cincinnati 3...2.0...Jayden Gardner ECU 4...1.9...Justin Brown USF 5...1.8...Tristen Newton ECU 5...1.8...Marcus Sasser Houston 5...1.8...Tyson Jolly SMU 8...1.7...Caleb Mills Houston 8...1.7...Chris Vogt Cincinnati 8...1.7...Dexter Dennis, WSU 11...1.6...Lester Quinones Memphis 11...1.6...Darien Jackson Tulsa 11...1.4...Darrin Green UCF 14...1.3...Dejon Jarreau Houston 14...1.3...Elijah Joiner Tulsa 14...1.3...Quentin Grimes Houston 14...1.3...Michael Durr, USF 14...1.3...Trey Wade WSU 14....1.3...Feron Hunt SMU 20...1.2...Collin Smith UCF 20....1.2...Brandon Rachael Tulsa 20...1.1...Brison Gresham Houston 20...1.0... RE: Top Returning Players AAC (Updated) - StillJonesing - 07-13-2020 10:23 AM If you got a player no longer with the team still listed I'll edit that out. I think I got most everyone removed. The league lost a lot of good players would be my take away. RE: Top Returning Players AAC (Updated) - robertfoshizzle - 07-13-2020 10:32 AM Tristen Newton was a real gem of a recruit. Wasn't even rated by the major recruiting services as far as I can tell. Assuming there is a season, I think 16-17 wins should be attainable for ECU. USF, UCF, and SMU should all improve too. I still don't understand his lack of recruitment, he is a 6-5 PG and averaged 39ppg 9rpg in high school on a top 5, 5A team in Texas. Pretty easy to see he had upside, good kid from a military home too. We were flat lucky to find him, I loved that signing from day 1. The last 40+% of the season all in the AAC was pretty insane. 15.1ppg 5.8rpg 3.8apg 1.4spg on high efficiency Newton also left low hanging fruit by not hitting his FT's as well in conference as he did the rest of the year or in HS. He shot 88.2% in 450 attempts his senior year in high school, and 76% in conference play. He could even be more efficient next year if he hits FT's. Now that Mike and Hinton are gone, I do think Newton and Gardner are the best duo in the AAC going into next season. They might be the best two players they way Newton ended the year. Statistically they were in AAC play. If Dooley squanders them again he needs to go. He didn't even have Newton starting a chunk of the season and had him playing scared to get benched. He played him 8 minutes vs Coppin State and we lost. Once he let him play and took the clamps off he took off. RE: Top Returning Players AAC (Updated) - JHG722 - 07-13-2020 11:00 AM NPL is gone RE: Top Returning Players AAC (Updated) - TripleA - 07-13-2020 11:14 AM Tyler Harris isn't returning to Memphis. He transferred to Iowa State. RE: Top Returning Players AAC (Updated) - StillJonesing - 07-13-2020 11:26 AM I'm probably most interested to see DeAndre Williams of the new guys, he had such an insane statistical profile when he did play. Although he did eat up a D2 team for 29 points and 13 rebounds factored in. Still 32 PER is nuts regardless. He only had 2 points and 1 rebound in 15 minutes and fouled out vs ECU though. He couldn't handle Gardner at all that game, Gardner had 28 points in 31 minutes and fouled him out quick. Other guys I expect to do better than they did last year. Chargois, he was better the year prior just didn't make the same shots and this true shooting was way down, most everything else was as solid. David Collins was much better in AAC play the year prior as well. 2018-2019 in AAC play 17.1 Collins 16.9 Chargois Guys that has played better in the past I would expect to play better than they did last year. RE: Top Returning Players AAC (Updated) - BraveKnight - 07-13-2020 11:27 AM Pretty sure K.J. Lawson isn’t returning to Tulane. I missed more than I thought I guess. Anyone else still in the draft process, I know Jarreau pulled out. AAC's looking a little down to me. Lost a lot of quality players and I don't see as much immediate help as previous years even if guys get waivers. What sit out last year transfers are we missing? I know SMU has one from Cal I believe. RE: Top Returning Players AAC (Updated) - robertfoshizzle - 07-13-2020 12:09 PM Right now, I feel like Houston is the only near-lock to be a tournament team, with Cincinnati and Memphis in contention. I don't know what to make of Wichita State with all of their roster turnover, but they could be in the mix. Haven't really followed what's going on at Temple and Tulsa, but UCF, USF, and SMU all look like teams that could be in play for the postseason if things come together.
