UNnecessary - Cucumber Salad - 07-04-2020 07:26 PM

What’s the point?

If we are going to tear down relics of the past why not include the utterly useless U.N. which poses an actual threat?

When did this go from being a WMU forum to a political forum? Dear god.

For numerous years Bronco alum have shared newsworthy info not directly tied to WMU. Food for thought.

Nothing should change along those lines.

Political? I can see that. But more political science.
Also economical, social, practical and psychological.

Fair?

The rise of antagonistic fringe elements on both political wings is alarming to me.

I believe the dangers of social media are manifesting itself: platforms acting as bullhorns, recruitment centers and radicalization tools for repulsive ideologies. Too many people getting their "news" from their Twitter feeds.

Social media enables people with extreme ideas to find others who would agree with them. It used to be that you'd only hear about that from your weird uncle at Christmas and then ten years ago when he'd email a FWD: FWD: to you and you just tossed it in the spam filter.

People read and listen to what they want to. When newsprint was in his heyday many simply read the sports page after reading the front page headline. Others might simply read the entertainment section and do a crossword puzzle. Your world is as small as you care to allow it.

But back to point… I value feedback to the link I provided regarding significant majority of UN countries voting in favor of supporting Chinese crack down on Hong Kong.

How does that vote align with the purpose of the U.N.? What does it say about support for people who seek freedom and liberty? Using recent history one could say it’s analogous to CHOP in Seattle. The inmates are in control of the asylum.

As the largest funder to U.N. functions isn't it wiser to invest “UN” money into US infrastructure? Enterprise zones in underemployed urban and rural areas? Promote choice in education in inner cities with greater accountability. Reverse the negative avalanche of impact as a result of the war on poverty? Pay down the debt?

UNICEF is fine with tight scrutiny but instead of corrupt Cuba and China having their fingerprints on it if the US funded specific needs directly? Greater impact because it’s not run through the UN bureaucracy.
