244 years old, and showing some wear and tear. But still the greatest nation ever conceived on this planet, even if founded by and comprised of imperfect persons.

Because of our founding fathers (including Jefferson) and their belief that all men were created equal, this country was able to end hundreds (thousands, really) of years of slavery in 87 years.
Yes, Jefferson owned slaves, but it was something he also thought should be ended. Of King George, he wrote,

In the end, despite all the trials and tribulations of the present, I still think this country is a better place for me than any other. For all that we are, we are still here. We all lift together.
