YouTube TV hikes price to $64.99 per month - orangefan - 06-30-2020 01:46 PM

Fackkkkkk!

The justification is new channels, which don't even include more sports - BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, TV Land and VH1. They were probably overdue for a price increase.

Why doesn't someone offer a skinnier bundle that's primarily sports focused?

Ya knew it was coming as soon as you saw the Viacom Deal

The advantage over cable takes a big hit.

Man I detest Viacom. I am particularly salty over them destroying Comedy Central.

Sigh. I was thrilled moving to PS Vue (and disappointed when they ceased operations). I very much enjoy YouTube TV, but an added jump of $15 per month for channels I won't even watch? This sucks.

Ok, so this fall I want ESPN, espn2, ESPN u, ESPN News and ESPN+. What’s my options?

I started with Vue (since they were an ACCN launch partner) then went to YouTubeTV after they folded. YouTubeTV hiking the price $15/mo for a bunch of Viacom vomit makes it far more attractive to consider the Fuhrer Mickey bundle (Hulu Live, ESPN+, Disney+). That gets you all of the ESPN content.

Viacom is a poorly run company.

It starts at the top. Sumner Redstone is 97 and he's spent most of the past 25 years bickering with his eventual heirs over 1) who will inherit what, and 2) when they will gain the power they seek.

He finally stepped down as chairman in 2016 following a court-ordered evaluation by a geriatric psychologist. But he still owns the controlling shares and I have no doubt he's still making his opinions known.

I have Dis +, Netflix, and CBS All Access (which includes your local CBS station and Sports HQ) . That's $32 all together. If you have Roku you can download the Locast app and get all of your local channels (if your city is listed). I just have a ditigal antenna which has about 50 channels.

I'm good.

https://www.vidgo.com might be your best option. $39.99/mo after free trial. Current promo price is $29.99/mo, but not sure if that will last. ABC, FOX, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, ACCN, SECN, BTN, P12N, LHN, FS1, FS2, NFLN. This should include authentication for ACCNX, SECN+ and ESPN3.

ESPN+ is a separate service, although it can be bundled into hulu + Live TV.

Again, I think a price increase was in the works anyway.

CBS All Access is a haven of CBS archives. Didn't know sports were included. Reliving all the classic Survivor/BB seasons from the 2000's alone makes it a bargain.

Go to this website: https://www.suppose.tv/tv

On that page, plug in your zip code and select the channels you want to have, and it will display your options and the price for each.

If you are looking at streaming services, then you might also want to plug in the number of people in your household who might be watching TV at the same time -- for example, Hulu with Live TV is $55/month to watch one stream at a time, but if you want or need the ability to have three streams going at once on your account, then Hulu with Live TV is the same $65/month that YouTube TV now charges.

RE: YouTube TV hikes price to $64.99 per month - georgia_tech_swagger - 06-30-2020 03:34 PM

I've found the gotcha: Hulu Live TV + DVR is exactly ...... $64.99/mo. YouTubeTV rose the price $15 because they could.

If you're fine getting your locals OTA and without having a DVR VidGo looks like the best option for people wanting a sports heavy skinny bundle. If you want a DVR your options are Hulu Live TV or YouTube TV for the same money.

Back of the envelope math suggests that depending on your local cable company this may make it cheaper to roll your own DVR with your cable company's TV+Internet bundle. This means the same song-dance every 6/12/18/24 months to keep your teaser rate though.

Funny that I've just been waiting for my current provider to cancel it's service so I could move to YTTV for $50. But once it announced addition of the crap Viacom channels I correctly predicted the $15 bump. The thing is that streaming was just too cheap and had room to move closer to cable prices. I believe it will stay at $65 for at least 2 years.
I guess people were becoming for those crap channels but I can't imagine what they are watching. MTV has the Challenge and nothing else. It shows Ridiculousness 172 times per week and I'm not exaggerating. Comedy Central has South Park and nothing else and is rumored to be shutting down. Of course, BET has nothing and CMT is just movies.

That is a great useful website but Hulu Live is sorta awful.

I think Fubo TV is pretty much sports focused and they just added the Disney networks, however, I think the price is fairly steep as well.

Haven't really looked into it though.

Wow, thanks for the link, Wedge.

That confirms that Hulu+Live is going to be my best deal.

RE: YouTube TV hikes price to $64.99 per month - solohawks - 06-30-2020 06:51 PM

Hulu + Live TV - $54.99 or $61.99 (with Disney+/ESPN+ Bundle)
Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV - $60.99 or $67.99 (with Disney+/ESPN+ Bundle)
