Football seasons being canceled - Usajags - 06-26-2020 03:43 PM

Morehouse has announced they will cancel their 2020 football season, along with their cross country season. They are a DII and first scholarship program to cancel their season. Dominos are beginning to fall, this could get scary for us football fans.

They are not the first. An entire conference cancelled a month ago

I don't think there will be a college football season this fall. Big programs are already having kids test positive from voluntary workouts. If COVID-19 numbers were going down nationally I'd have hopes, but things are looking pretty bad right now.

Only problem with your statement, the CCAA doesn’t play/sponsor football.

DIII Bowdoin College of Maine has also canceled football and all other fall sports.

DIII does not give athletic scholarships. That's why the statement was "They are a DII and first scholarship program to cancel their season."

I posted on Yosef's Cabin the other day an article about the Ivy league dropping non-conf football this year and moving to a spring season. The final decision will be announced next week.

We can forget about football. It ain’t gonna happen.

Former SBC commissioner, Wright Waters suggests playing football in the spring.

Would you prefer FB this fall (but empty stadiums) or FB moved to spring with fans in the stands?

At this point I'm fine either way, though I'm leaning spring with more fans. If the normal 2021 season keeps its schedule, we could have a year full of football.

It’s not going to happen in the fall or the spring. Fall 2021 maybe

RE: Football seasons being canceled - Yosef84 - 07-04-2020 10:58 AM

The prospect of playing Spring Football was floated early on by the power-that-be, but I haven't read much lately. Is this option still on the table (on the tables that matter) or is this wishful thinking by the fans? I wouldn't mind Spring Football for a season and would certainly take it over no season at all.

The Ivy League is seriously discussing it currently. Their plan would be conference only games in the spring. The other leagues have to be seeing this as an option to no season at all, there is just way to much money to be lost if they don’t play at all.

I could definitely get behind a spring season.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know! I do think the amount of money involved with keep all options on the table. That has been my assumption, but it's good to know it's not just wishful thinking.
