Troy lands big transfer from Florida State - CardinalBlackTrojan - 06-17-2020 12:02 PM

Troy landed a big-time talent today... Ryan Pettys, a left-handed Pitcher from Florida State. He red-shirted this past season at FSU, so he's immediately eligible.

He was ranked the #15 left-handed pitcher in the nation out of high school, and had a grade of 10, which means he was considered an elite level college prospect or potential MLB draft pick.

He originally had offers from Florida State, Florida, Miami (FL), Georgia, and LSU.

If Troy's super-star recruit Tekoah Roby decides to sign with Troy instead of going pro (he was drafted in the 3rd Round), then we're going to be insanely good.

No offense intended, but if he had offers from all of those blue chip programs, why is he ending up at Troy? Is he from the area or something like that which gives you a leg up?

Troy may not be a "blue-chip" program, but we're no stranger to getting some of the top recruits in the country. One example of that would be Tekoah Roby, who recently signed with Troy over multiple P5's, and was just drafted in the MLB's 3rd round. Troy has had a lot of connections in Florida for many years and a deep history of getting players into the MLB.

Congrats. A player like that can definitely be a game changer.

Him redshirting has zero to do with being immediately eligible. He would have to be granted a waiver, which probably will happen with how the season ended for everyone.
