Proposed TN riot law - MemTigers1998 - 06-14-2020 02:58 PM Get arrested looting/ vandalizing - required 12 hours in jail upon arrest, minimum 30 days in jail and restitution payments. It’s a good start, but make the jail time so that it’s a deterrent. https://www.columbiadailyherald.com/news/20200613/committee-approves--rioting-law-amendment?template=ampart RE: Proposed TN riot law - Redbanksdog - 06-14-2020 06:03 PM I think we should bring back the old Penal Farms. RE: Proposed TN riot law - umbluegray - 06-15-2020 10:22 AM Just an FYI regarding party strength in TN... Governor: Bill Lee - R State Senate: R 28, D 5 (84.8% SM) State House: R 73, D 26 (73.7% SM) SM - A super majority is more than two-thirds the total seats. Senate SM = 22+1 House SM = 66+1 The TN General Assembly is firmly in the control of the GOP. They have veto-proof majorities and should be able to pass anything they want. F all the Memphis and Nashville Democrats RE: Proposed TN riot law - umbluegray - 06-15-2020 11:18 AM (06-15-2020 10:36 AM)MemTigers1998 Wrote:(06-15-2020 10:22 AM)umbluegray Wrote: Just an FYI regarding party strength in TN... A couple of points here... 1. Even with super-majorities, the GOP refuses to do certain things which are needed. For example, they refuse to change our public education systems. They could mandate that social justice/pc issues are to be removed from schools, be it primary, secondary, or collegiate. 2. As a Memphian I'm aware of the serious financial issues facing city government. Interestingly, the financial woes of Nashville are much more dire than those of Memphis. |
