Churches Declared Essential - Bronco'14 - 05-22-2020 12:53 PM

Trump: "Liquor stores and abortion clinics have been declared essential while places of worship non-essential. That's not right. I'm correcting that injustice by declaring houses of worship essential and call upon governors to open houses of worship right now. Any governor who wants to keep them closed will have to call me, but they won't be successful.

This is coming from the CDC. I thought the Dem governors were trying to follow their science & data?

I'd much rather take my chances there than Wal Mart, a liquor store, or your basement.

Repubs: "State's rights!!"
Also repubs: "Yes! Executive order to overrule governors so we can sit in a pew!"

Churches have remained open this entire time - just because you're not sitting next to someone in a different building doesn't mean worship hasn't been happening.

RE: Churches Declared Essential - JDTulane - 05-22-2020 01:58 PM

Want to go to church and sit side by side with 100 other people? Great. Fine. Go for it.

But I expect you to self-quarantine the other 167 hours of the week. That goes for all public gatherings of a similar nature.

Nope. Gretchen buried taking away their tax exempt status as protected by the Constitution in EO if they opened here in Michigan.

Trump didn't EO it. The CDC offered new guidelines that allow churches to open. The Dem governors have stated they're really big on following the CDC guidelines and its science & data, but I suspect we'll get crickets on this one.

RE: Churches Declared Essential - Bronco'14 - 05-22-2020 02:01 PM

Is 4 different Dem voters posting in one thread a new record here? I suspect it's because the thread title.

Not according to the CDC

I expected you to quarantine out of this board like you said you were going to 4 years ago and yet here you are.

So back to the topic at hand, most churches have already put out the guidelines. Church I attend says service only, 40 minutes, no singing. No more than 50 people. No offering or communion. Everyone has to be 6 feet apart, and masks will be worn. No other services (Bible Study) will occur and no separate child services or child care. They also are discouraging anyone with compromised immune systems to be there.

If a bar can open and sell drinks, a church should be able to open it's doors and let it's worshippers come and fellowship in Christ together.

Bless your heart.

Why do you assume people who attend church are stupid enough to sit side by side? Or can't implement safe practices?

Theaters and restaurants and other such venues are opening this weekend. Why not churches?

And I'm not religious, so it's not like I'm rooting for the home team. It's just common sense.

It is OK for you to be afraid.

The rest of us are moving on. 04-cheers

Correction:

Repubs" "State's rights within the law!"
Also repubs: "Yes! Executive order to overrule bad governor decisions so we can practice our God-given (not state given) right to sit in a pew!"

He didn't EO it. The CDC says they're okay to open if they follow guidelines. The Blue governors keep saying how important the CDC guidelines are, so not to have a double standard, should follow this guideline too. I suspect they'll have the double standard.

How many times do I have to say this?

EDIT: sorry, I misread your post. It comes across as bashing Trump. My comment still true (unless he did EO it but it doesn't sound like he did) but I didn't mean it to come as an attack.

If anyone wants to wear a mask and self isolate and social distance, then by definition they are perfectly safe from those of us that choose to do none of these things. I don’t see the problem.

RE: Churches Declared Essential - Eagleaidaholic - 05-22-2020 03:03 PM

I thought that Constitution thingy says the "State" can't get into the affairs of the Church? Check that one off the list I guess. I will believe the "State" is looking out for the people's welfare when they outlaw Fast Food joints, Cigarettes and "Street Legal" golf carts. If I have to wear a seatbelt when I'm driving my pick-up truck that has billions of dollars worth of safety features in it, I suspect there is no such thing as a "Street Legal" golf cart, especially one with little kids sitting on the back of them facing the car behind them.

Doesn’t the bill of rights protect religion?

Trump playing reverse psychology again. Knows he don’t have power to override and that Governors don’t have legal ground to do what they are doing. Dem Gov’s and Mayors will take the heat for it.

You're right to a point. Trump CAN sic the DOJ and therefore Federal Judges on said Governors.

And these are perfectly usable and reasonable arrangements. This is what Sunday’s will look like all over the country for a while, and no big deal.

I like the “drive-in” Church service too, every other parking space and Preacher man on a mic and speaker.

These clowns that are locked into “they must remain closed NO services”. Or Errrrrrmageddon!!! They’re gonna open and pack the aisles, the whole rear, they’ll all be sitting on top of each other!!!”

C’mon people, don’t be dumb. There’s plenty of ways this can work quite simply. Don’t be dumb.
