Arkansas State series - GoDownSwinging - 05-20-2020 08:38 PM

Arkansas State is reporting that they have agreed to add a four year extension with Memphis for football, for the seasons of 2026-2029.

2026 and 2028 in Memphis
2027 and 2029 in Jonesboro.

The Tigers 2026 and 2028 schedule will now include @ Arkansas, vs Arkansas State in both seasons.
The 2027 and 2029 gives the Tigers their first out of conference opponent for those two seasons.

There will be a Sun Belt opponent on the Tigers schedule through the season of 2029.

2020-2023: vs Arkansas State
2024: Troy
2025: @ Georgia State @ Troy

We can thank our departed AD for all the Sunbelt love - and he still didn't get the job. That said, I don't mind the ASU games but GA St & Troy, like So AL & a couple of others I just don't get.

there's a dispensary less than 10 mins from the stadium.

Not exactly true, if the current AD has agreed to the extension. I actually don't mind Sun Belt games. I just think it should be 2 for 1. But evidently that's hard to pull-off these days when the SEC will pay them $1M+ for a buy game.

Troy has a better gameday than ark state and ga state...combined.

We will be lucky if they dont beat our arse.

Y'all need to get out more.

Plus if they beat us it wont be their biggest win ever. Lol.

I don't see any issue with Arkansas State series.

But some of you will b*tch about anything.

AttackCoog from the AAC board saw, read or heard something from the Ark. St. AD saying Memphis moved a game and they took the opportunity to extend the series. I'm guessing it was extended in part to avoid paying any penalties. Honestly not a bad series, however it should not be a yearly game. There's just not enough upside in terms of sos or recruiting...nice travel ease tho. IMO, a better schedule would feature a rotation of Ark. St., MTSU and LA Tech for decent annual G5 games in terms of recruiting, travel and fan interest.

It'll be interesting to see how Veatch and Silverfield will handle the schedule process. I remember President Rudd informing Bowen to schedule tougher teams, which resulted in the series with Arkansas that's coming up. We're open for an FCS team in 2023, but I want to see us use a splash type of move. Hopefully, we're on the phone with Boise State and setting up a series with the Broncos.

In Boise 2024, at the Liberty Bowl in 2027.

I just want to see us play Boise State, and it seems like based off Boise State's future football schedule, they're more than willing to play American Athletic teams (played UCONN, will play UCF, USF, Cincinnati, Houston, and ECU).

Arkansas State is okay.

RE: Arkansas State series - gulfcoastgal - 05-21-2020 01:31 PM

Yeah, it's getting harder and harder to schedule P5 H&H. I'm thinking 2 for 1s are the future unless you want to take a buy game. From a cost savings standpoint, regional G5s make sense, but locking into one team long term doesn't. It'll go stale fast. And, for goodness sake, LOOK OUTSIDE THE SBC!!!!

Beating LSU was big, but not as big as beating the TOM.

This is so exciting... I can barely contain myself. A home and home with Arkansas State. We have arrived.

Agree

The So Miss games had some juice too

Nothing wrong with regional teams, as long as they dont suck

RE: Arkansas State series - memphisike - 05-21-2020 07:55 PM

I still think we should play so.miss and if we must play a sunbelt
Play coastal Carolina in September, nice OCS close to the beach with water temperatures in the 80's
Of course u all know my CUPCAKE feelings, but if we're gonna play one, let's have some fun in the sun.
Please try and get games with Maryland, Virginia, Rutgers, Illinois, Indiana, LSU, Ohio state, Oklahoma
Nebraska. Gotta work on these games now, I'm sure they're booked up. Syracuse and I'd like to see another game with BYU, Utah state Utah Arizona state Arizona. Just a few that could work
