Baseball Tournament Game 1: GaSo vs. stAte - Pounce FTW - 05-14-2020 09:19 PM

I warned y'all I was doing this.

Today I crashed, Kool-Aid Man style, through the fabric of spacetime into a parallel world where we were able to play a Belt baseball tourney (in order to send at least one rep, and hopefully more, to regionals). Teams were seeded based on their OOC records, and the uneven scheduling meant that all teams were included in the field. Thus our Game 1 features #5 Georgia Southern hosting #12 Arkansas State.

Both teams will look back at a lot of missed opportunities from this one, with a total of 19 men left on base for the contest. Arkansas State accounted for 10 of those but still carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of 8th. The Eagles then broke the game open against Red Wolves reliever Jack Jumper, only managing one hit in the inning but stacking that on top of an error, two walks, and a hit batsman to score three. This is all Southern would need to spoil the scoreless 4-hit outing given by A-State starter Will Nash.

Eagles reliever Hayden Harris picks up the win by delivering two perfect innings, and Nick Jones earns a save despite having to face a couple of extra batters in the 9th. All of Georgia Southern's RBI came from the bottom third of the order, with catcher Matt Anderson's bases-loaded, two-out single putting the Eagles on top for good.

From where I am in this alternate timeline, #6 App is about to hit the field vs. #11 South Alabama. Obviously I'll get those results to you as soon as I can get ahold of them.

You have fun, don’t let me discourage you, but I think it’s hard to gauge results strictly from out of conference games because the differences in schedule. For instance, the RPI of the average USA opponent is 110 compared to 171 for that of App State.

Are you going to post the seeds of each team? Who is the top seed? UTA? I’m just trying to recall from the top of my head but it seems they were doing well record-wise.

Oh, I definitely recognize that the limited 2020 results are going to hinder the perceived accuracy of the simulation. I can guarantee, though, that that's NOT the fatal flaw that will limit this effort to obscurity!03-rotfl

I have the tourney's seeds like this:

1 TXST
2 CCU
3 UTA
4 ULM
5 GaSo
6 App
7 GaSt
8 UALR
9 Troy
10 ULL
11 USA
12 stAte

I believe I bumped CCU above UTA to make the top two seeds from opposite sides of the conference. (I think that's been done in years past...)

This was going to be a very special year for our baseball team. Seriously doubt we would have ended up seeded 5th.

Well at least stAte made it easy for you to seed them.

Well...you won the play-in game, so that's pretty much as good as a top-4 seed over in this universe. You just won't be able to start Jordan Jackson at the beginning of the double elimination portion.

Question, btw: What happened to Noah Ledford this year? I hadn't really been paying attention to specifics of your team but didn't see him in the stats I was working with.

I was actually starting to think they were going to end up winning this one so everyone could assume that my system is inherently biased against Georgia Southern.

LOL. I like the way you think.
