2020 21 MBB Schedule Thread - indianasniff - 05-11-2020 01:17 PM

First thing I have seen on this.

Oakland will host Toledo on December 5th per public records obtained by
@TheD1Docket, first game of a four-year deal.

And going by the spreadsheet they have in this tweet:

11/10 vs. Valpo
11/14 vs. Bradley
12/2 vs. Detroit
12/5 @ Oakland
12/9 vs. Cleveland St
12/13 vs. UMKC
12/16 @ Marshall

And the rumored date for the game at Michigan St is 12/21.

I 'll attend the Bahamas Tournament as long as I can drive there.

20 game conference schedule for next year. Only 8 teams will make the tournament. No Divisions.

RE: 2020 21 MBB Schedule Thread - indianasniff - 05-12-2020 09:28 PM

Wonder if 20 MAC games impacts the Bahamas trip

Typically tournaments outside the contiguous states haven’t counted against game limits, right?

RE: 2020 21 MBB Schedule Thread - IamN2daRockets! - 05-13-2020 06:42 AM

I’m all in favor of no divisions and 20 games. It makes relative team strength clearer and I think makes conference play more meaningful. I would be ok with eliminating the whole damn tournament but I guess it generates some revenue in Cleveland for the MAC

Go Rockets!

Tournaments count as one "competition". (whether in or out of U.S.)
each regular season scheduled game counts as one competition.

so the advantage of that is a team can get 3 or 4 games in with it counting as one against the NCAA scheduling limits (whatever that 30 number something is currently)

This seems like a plus to me. If you can't finish in the top 8, you have no business going to the conference tournament. I have mixed feelings about having a tournament at all. Going to Cleveland for a few days is great fun, but I also liked it in the old days (very long ago!) when every conference game mattered. The regular season champion is really more deserving and generally would represent the conference better.

Agree! I hate the conference tournaments.

For one bid leagues, the season champ would most likely be the best to represent. I think basing the bid all on an end of year conference tournament is not completely ridiculous, because a team can get players back that were out injured, etc..., which likely hurt their standings during the season. The body of season work should count the most.

I wonder if there ever has been consideration of naming the season champ the automatic bid, then have 2 through 5 play a two game tourney for other opportunities NIT, etc..

That would save money and give the relevant next 4 more spot light.

Since tournaments have always been about the Benjamins, playing for second best wouldn’t have much appeal and you automatically take out the regular season’s fans from having an interest. I think it would be great if every large had two reps and the regular season plus tournament champ (or losing finalist) got bids but that’s not happening either.

this would be a surprise. the battle for atlantis is one of the most competitive tourneys out there and the 2020 field was already set with 8 P5 programs including Duke and the 2021 field is mostly set with 5 P5 plus VCU and Loyola. So, only way UT is going is if a team dropped for 2020. If so, and the tourney actually takes place, UT would likely play 3 P5 programs on a neutral court which is a rare chance to get some signature wins without playing on someone else's court.

It wouldn't be the Battle for Atlantis. It is a small tournament. I think it might be this tournamanet: http://bahamarhoops.com/

well, that's a different animal, but if the tournament comes together (all future competition threads should come with an * at this point) and has it's normal solid mid major opposition, it will be a good fit for us. we do well in the stronger mid major tourneys. wish we could play in a few of those that have a mix of P5 and mid major.

Lots of home games on that list. Wonder if the budget cutting will lead them to schedule games that are close. Selfish side of me would love a game at Purdue Fort Wayne. Easy bus ride home after game

Looking at the competition level of last year's installment, I'm going to guess you're right:

Friday, Nov. 22

11 a.m. – Liberty (5-0) vs. Morgan State (2-2)
2 p.m. – Rice (4-1) vs. Milwaukee (4-1)
5 p.m. – Kansas City (2-3) vs. George Washington (1-3)
8 p.m. – Evansville (3-1) vs. East Carolina (1-3)

Also, there is no chance in hell this tournament takes place this year 03-lmfao
