Additionally, the university will also reduce salaries for the school's leaders for the remainder of the fiscal year, including a 15% reduction for President Ray Watts, 10% reductions for senior vice presidents; and a 7% reduction for deans and vice presidents. UAB also recently said employer matches/contributions to voluntary 403(b) retirement plans will be temporarily suspended or reduced.

... the health system is implementing a temporary reduction in salary that will affect clinical staff at UAB Medicine and UAB Health System-managed entities. They will be based on a sliding scale:

• $0 – $31,200: 0% reduction in annual compensation

• $31,201 – $50,000: 3% reduction in annual compensation • $50,001 – $75,000: 4% reduction in annual compensation • $75,001 – $125,000: 5% reduction in annual compensation • $125,001 – $200,000: 6% reduction in annual compensation • Greater than $200,000: 7% reduction in annual compensation • Senior Leaders (Including Department Chairs): 10% reduction in annual compensation • Health System Executive Cabinet: 15% reduction in annual compensation

I didn't see anything included for athletics. Are Ingram and/or head coaches taking a reduction?

Ingram is a department head, so you would think he is automatically included.

Quote:The temporary furloughs will affect university staff unable to work effectively in a remote setting. This may include:
-Non-clinical School of Medicine staff
-Staff in all other UAB schools/College of Arts and Sciences
-All UAB administrative departments
-Department of Athletics

Going on MSM and contributing to fearporn really did wonders for UAB. Luckily, there are doctors in lower positions focused on their job, rather than politics, that are trying to save lives.

I always knew there was a risk that Sabanic Verses would take on a life of his own.

I didn't hear where my salary would be cut or me furloughed but did think there'd be no raises this coming year. Didn't know about the cuts to 403b matching but makes sense

If proration is declared from the state government down, it violates the state law that says teacher pay can't be prorated by a SETF action. If it is a local voluntary decision arrived at by administrative agreement, then I suppose it is legal. Either way, it may weaken UAB's ability to compete for the best and brightest research personnel at a time when the state is the only southern sunbelt projected to lose a seat in Congress (which funds all those grants) after this census year. That means Alabama may have only 6 House members and after 2022, two very junior senators unless Shelby plans to serve until he is almost 100 years old.

Seems like the UAB revenue curve was flattened.

The only way for UAB to attempt to stop the bleeding is to open everything back up yet we know that this goes against their agenda.

Doubling down on social distancing, etc. will do nothing but keep everyone away from getting these procedures and surgeries done.

As a result, the bleeding by UAB will be very severe.

What we are seeing done now is child's play compared to what will happen at the end of the summer if administration and government officials don't open things up as they should.

I dunno, I like to think that in the year 2020 we've reached the point where maybe there is no dollar value on the life of a human being. Guess I was wrong

They don't do the same stuff for those dying from the flu so I guess I am missing something here.

It couldn't be the fact that UAB took it to the extreme level forcing every damn thing in the state to shut down as a result.

Truth is, this is not really much different than the flu meaning that by this time next year people can line up to get corona virus shots that actually give them the corona virus.

What a wonderful world.

RE: UAB announces furloughs, salary reductions amid pandemic - BAMANBLAZERFAN - 05-05-2020 11:07 AM

When promoting the "Flu shot", the disclaimer is that any year's shot is 50% to 70% effective for that year's flu. Any supposition that any COVID-19 vaccine will be 100% for even 2020 may be dreaming. If the COVID-19 virus mutates like we see with the flu virus, we may face a COVID-21 next year. Until Pharma can produce a CURE for any virus caused disease (now we can only treat symptoms), we are stuck with the joke that a doctor says to his "cold patient", "we will give you pneumonia because we can cure that".

RE: UAB announces furloughs, salary reductions amid pandemic - the_blazerman - 05-05-2020 12:52 PM

It strikes me kind of odd that some are interested in pointing out the number who have contracted it yet ignore the number who have gotten over it.

The contracted number is an ongoing public counter.
Those who have gotten over it isn't mentioned much.

Every life is priceless. But there's a cost of care of that life. In this case it's not only the cost of direct care but the additional cost to perfectly healthy individuals, families and businesses from cutting off income.

RE: UAB announces furloughs, salary reductions amid pandemic - the_blazerman - 05-05-2020 06:19 PM

We could also all do without cars and ride horses once again to preserve lives.

Stuff happens in life. Flu kills you, car accidents kill you, viruses kill you, neighbors kill you.

Life shouldn't stop just because people die unfortunate deaths.

An Ehsan fluffer AND a trump fluffer. You’ve reached a higher level of existence than all of us. Congratulations blazerman. Your idiocy knows no bounds.

RE: UAB announces furloughs, salary reductions amid pandemic - BlazinBham - 05-06-2020 09:19 AM

Imagine a doctor lying about drugs that actually work(”It was good enough for me to use, see I’m not dead, but I sure do feel like i should be“) simply because the president made a suggestion of use based on its success overseas. Then spending a month pushing Remdesivir which you hadnt finished your own studies on.

”Go ahead folks, die without taking Hydroxycloroquine and azithromycin. If you are still alive at the end of the month, we’ll give you remdesivir.” Some great guys in charge, at the infectious disease department.

If I get banned, it’s been good chatting it up with you all. But, you know that’s exactly what it’s looked like with Dr. Saag.
