CBS Sunday Morning feature on Pitt's Polio history and Covid research - CrazyPaco - 05-03-2020 01:45 PM

For people that may not be familiar with Pitt's substantial history in the medical and health sciences, the feature that appeared today on CBS Sunday Morning touches on one most notable achievements in medical science history that occurred at Pitt and also interviews the head of one of the two different Pitt COVID vaccine projects.

FYI, Carl Kurlander's full documentary on the development of the polo vaccine that is referenced in the above CBS Sunday Morning feature, The Shot Felt 'Round the World, can be seen on Vimeo.

While the project mentioned above concerns using a attenuated measiles vector, the other Pitt team is working on a vaccine developed against a recombination COVID spike protein to be delivered by a microneedle patch (see local news video here).

A local PBS story on the two projects can be watched in this video:

Of the 9 vaccine total projects at universities in the US, 2 are at Pitt and one each is at Miami and Duke. The others are at Tulane, Baylor College of Medicine, Thomas Jefferson, Georgia, and another collaboration between Georgia and Iowa.

Not to leave out other ACC COVID projects, see the the prior post of lists of projects here.
