Monday Musings - fanfrompowellspub - 04-27-2020 06:47 AM

The NFL draft confirmed what we all believed that the MAC was down in talent. The future is not over as a few Eagles and maybe a few more down the road got signed as Free Agents.
NBA Basketball is rumoring to open up their facilities May 1st...
Condo's in the Thompson Block and Condos at the College of Business. What a better place to retire for 1/2 the year then Ypsilanti Michigan?? come on emu steve get in on the ground floor.
Golf is opening back up in Michigan slowly so I am on the tee.

Ground floor is retail, right? Buy up all the donuts? 03-lmfao

Now, if FB moved to Spring, I could have FB, MBB and WBB for 3 - 4 months a year and would be happy (except too cold to go to the games.)

I guess I could be an EMU (reverse) Snow Bird... Come to MI during the dead of winter... 05-nono then sweat my a*s off when I return to D.C. for Summer.

How many former MAC players were drafted? There were at least 3 that had transferred out of the MAC.

This article is a little dated, but shows how the MAC does have good and lean years in the NFL draft.

There will be plenty of commercial and retail space once this virus runs its course sadly

Wonder if EMU needs a NCAA ruling on the funds ($400) for freshmen? The 'saving grace' is that the stipend is available to all incoming freshmen, and is no way related to athletic status.

My 'seat of the pants' opinion is that it would be treated like the cost of attendance which the universities provide certain scholarship athletes.

RE: Monday Musings - Ken Barna - 04-27-2020 04:33 PM

Dear steve,
Since it is my understanding that the university is giving this ($400) to all incoming freshmen, so, how does that involve the NCAA? I suppose there is a point for incoming athletes, but I think you answered it with your "seat of the pants" comment.

RE: Monday Musings - emu steve - 04-27-2020 04:56 PM

Yes, Ken. I should have said for freshmen athletes.

It does look like they have also studied the tax implications too. (I assume so that the monies are not taxable).

Once again this is what is hurting and will continue to hurt MAC MBB:

MAC can't afford to lose these type players.

Unlike what many expected, today the NCAA Board of Directors decided NOT to vote on allowing free one-time transfers at their upcoming meeting. It was supposed to go up for approval on May 20th, but that won't happen. They essentially decided to punt the issue down the road, and likely won't revisit it until January.

The transfer waiver system stays as, is for now. Sounds like they couldn't find a solution for several issues. Kind of a shocker. Everyone thought this would be a done deal.

Good. We don't need the MAC to be the minor league for the B10 and other P5 conferences.
