Way I read it in the initial article, don’t think it needs to be an in state opponent, it just has to be a game played in the AAC team’s home state with them as the home team.
Norte Dame will likely seek to swap that canceled road game with Navy into a home game now and since that is a huge annual marketing tool for Navy they would likely agree.
BTW, what possible medical/safety benefit is there for having AAC teams play an OOC game but only in their home state? I’m sure someone can point a legitimate one out.

Non-Conference Game Criteria
I'm interpreting that as a road game for any non-conference opponent. So, intead of going to Nebraska can we hitch a ride to a closer venue?

Yeah looks right based on that language. My guess is no one in the ACC will want to play us and will instead play smaller schools as practice dummies - and there will be political pressure to play the directional in-state schools. I think when these conference plans all fall apart that schools should instead individually schedule best of 5 rivalry games that are played over 7 or 8 weeks. I think TV would pay a pretty penny for Michigan/OSU playing a 5 game series. Would limit the "pod" and mixing of players each week and could be spaced out to allow teams to recover from getting hit by the virus.

B10 10 conference only
ACC 10 conference + 1 game in state ND temp full FB member
SEC 10 conference only
B12 I expect full 9 in conference + one OOC
Notably Absent AAC
MW no word
CUSA, SB,MAC - who cares!
INDY non ND - play each other H/A? - funny to watch

Maybe. The fact that we would have to play in their stadium may mitigate that some. I mean, I'm not getting my hopes up but at least the possibility is there.

Aresco has said the AAC was going to wait until the P5 worked out their scheduling. I believe this is a near direct quote - we have no delusions of who drives the bus at this point.
