But it is still Trump's fault.

Nobody does anything to prepare, and then they are outraged when stuff doesn't show up immediately.

The American public needs a basic course in disaster response. Then maybe they would understand the need to prepare.

At least Cuomo went on an interview and said that Trump has responded very well. Cuomo gave him a list, Trump took care of it. Cuomo was supposed to pay 25% and said they couldn't and Trump said he would take care of it.

That would require planning, something that used to be done but was subsumed by a ‘just in time’ philosophy.

Gotta maximize profits!!! Carrying excess inventory lowers margins.

Governments don't run on profits. And they are usually worse prepared than the private sector, which does.

But the gov't used to have warehouses for emergency situations. The philosophy I mentioned permeated the gov't as they were forced to go to the same MBA schools that touted 'lean' and minimizing storage. Said bureaucrats salved themselves with the idea that in a crisis the public sector would have the material on hand

Exactly.

However---in his defense (and in th defense of the current Federal response)---here's the thing. It would cost huge sums of money to prepare completely and properly for a pandemic on this scale. Doing so would require drawing resources away from other preparations. So what would of course happen? The next disaster wouldnt be a pandemic. It would be a series of radiological or chemical disaster we arent prepared for. We would have limited facilities for treating radiation/chemical type injuries because we have 5 trillion N-95 masks and a crapload of protective wear that is useless for radiation or chemical disasters.

We aren't prepared for any of them.

Of course it's Trump's fault. In the Dem's world everything and I mean EVERYTHING bad in the world is Trump's fault.

Because by it's very nature the government at any level above local is typically reactive instead of proactive, with it getting worse as you climb.

We should have had a stockpile of N95 respirators because they are effective PPE for more than just medical calls. We used them in building collapse rescue for the dust, wore them in hurricane and flooding recovery missions for the mold, and they would be effective in keeping you from breathing radioactive particulates in a dirty bomb situation. Hell, I had a couple packs of them in my garage for when I was sanding older stuff that might have lead based paint on it. Gave them to my paramedic son to use when this all started.

Government aside, it surprises me how many people didn't already have a couple weeks worth of food and stuff. I never really thought of it in terms of disaster planning, but the stuff tends to accumulate naturally.

Obviously this doesn't apply to the poorest barely getting by.

16,000 ventilators are expensive. But I bet most of us can find a few line items in their budget that exceeded the price that was for something stupid, woke, or free sh*t giveaways to those who didnt deserve it.
