Yahoo Sports' absurdly early Top 25 college hoops rankings for next season - Guitarman - 03-24-2020 01:39 PM

Great mention for our Tigers

Way-too-early Top 25 college hoops

Under the Tennessee blurb:”if the seniors are allowed to return...”

Wasn’t this already settled? That only spring sports seniors could get an extra year of eligibility?

I hope they do give seniors an extra year of eligibility.

I don’t disagree. The bulk of the schedule is in the spring semester.

Why? They only missed the tournament. These are student athletes, right? If they are given another year, shouldn't we all be given something for things lost during this, right? And from whom?

Whenever you give somebody something for nothing, or allow someone to break a rule that others follow, it negatively affects an equal number of people. It would keep hundreds (maybe thousands?) of deserving high school seniors from a scholarship they worked hard for. What if your kid was a senior with a basketball scholarship for Northern Iowa, but the seniors are staying and your scholarship is now gone?

This covid 19 thing is sad and devastating for many, but it will pass in a few weeks. Some college kids missed playing in a tournament, so what.

Plus, it wouldn't help the Tigers, and that's more important anyway!

Well, if that is the case and you are not a hypocrite you will turn down that 1000 check they are sending to all working Americans, and if they come up with a vaccine you will turn that down as well, because you know, life is hard and you have to roll with it.

Basketball played the full season. Seniors need to move on.

How do you figure that? Spring starts in mid March, most of the games are played between November and February which are winter months

There’s fall semester, then spring semester.
I didn’t make it up.

That is a WAAAAY too early poll for sure. We did not make the tournament and lose our top player. And next year it looks as if our colors are going to be limited to Blue and Grey without any Brown or Green added.

His reasoning is half crazy; he has a very valid point about high school seniors being deprived of scholarships next season. Your reasoning is insane on every level.

- 285 out of 353 schools or 81% had played their last game and wouldn't have made the NCAA Tournament field.

- 319 out of 353 schools or 90% would have their season completed with no NCAA Tournament, or would have played 1 extra game (34 teams).

- 337 out of 353 schools or 95% would have their season completed with no NCAA Tournament, or would have played 1 extra game (34 teams), or 2 extra games (16 teams)

I don’t think the senior basketball players really need another year. However, the arguments you make don’t really mean anything. The NCAA could just as easily not count returning seniors against the scholarship limit.

Well, first off, I don't qualify for the check, but if I did, I'd take it, its just a tax refund for most and free money for those who don't make any anyway and not directed towards a specific type of worker. Everybody will just turn around and spend it all anyway, sometimes I think I am one of the very few who ever saved any money.

And not taking a vaccine? Come on, where does that even come from?

My point was by giving basketball seniors another year, it hurts many others who were working hard to take their spots and thousands of others fighting for those open scholarships, as well as many other longer term, less obvious, issues.

They should not be granted an extra year. It would effect the newcomers too much. No matter if it counts against schollys or not. Shlt happens. It’s over for them. Time to move on.
