3 spots left. If 1 is the Pinson guard then he would probably need to sign 2 big guys with the remaining spots.

RE: Hoops recruiting - ATTALLABLAZE - 04-11-2020 10:15 AM

Look for a JUCO big. Possibly two guys. I suspect we will look more like an Anderson team.

RE: Hoops recruiting - The Answer UAB - 04-11-2020 10:16 AM

We could have a really nice team if he rounds it out with a couple of serviceable to good big men.

Maybe. So far I haven't found anything about us actually offering Woods. Barber mentioned us last week but it was just that we had talked to him.
I think he would be a good addition but AK may have very different plans.

I like the way this back court is looking. I agree that we need one more guard and then two in the front court.

I agree. Imagine the impact something like that would have on a coach's career, especially now when they are trying to get a new job with there being very openings(2 D1 head counting jobs, I think). Other potential coaches and ADs(their potential bosses) see this stuff. As said, if they want to encourage players to leave they could simply call them. In most cases I suspect posting a player's portal entrance is to get the player's name out there to potential college coaches.

Also, consider that with the COVID-19 crisis these guys have been home and/or away from campus for the past month and won't be returning soon. They don't know and haven't met the new coaching staff. Some may have decided they'd prefer to be closer to home; some may have decided that starting over is best for them; some may have even been contacted by other coaches about transferring in; etc. They have had a lot of time to think.
I personally do not want anyone to transfer. All of our guys have represented UAB well. But I understand if they want to leave for a variety of reasons. I do not agree that a former coach should be tweeting either. Intepret it how you like. I hope some of of the guys in portal might decide to stay.. I do like the addition of Ertel. Most of all, everyone stay safe and try to stay healthy.

I havent heard about any specific offers Kam Woods has received....dont all these guys usually advertise every offer they get on Twitter?

Lovan staying can not be understated. That was huge. He made big strides in his game last year. Toughest guy on the team. Super competitive.

This is my ideal scenario. Get Kam Woods and two juco/grad transfer bigs. AK's been doing a good job so far getting players, but decent big guys are a lot harder to find. I just wonder if we might be scraping the bottom of the barrel on juco bigs just because AK's getting a late start.

Agreed. Plus Lovan's ability to drive might be even more enhanced next year with more 3 point threats to space the floor.

TSG the same. That left handed dribble drive messes with defenses.

who can translate this statement from Ertel?

"I have never been one to go the traditional route, and I’m not going to start now."

traditional route is ULM to Memphis or something?

RE: Hoops recruiting - BAMANBLAZERFAN - 04-11-2020 02:14 PM

Transferring (usually by mutual consent) is the nicest way for a new coach to "cull the herd" since he wants to have a team that is "his". Some players might quit the team, perhaps even quit the school or have to be axed by nonrenewal of scholarship. These all result in vacancies that can be filled by new talent chosen by the new coach to blend with the "keepers".

I would like to see us get back to an up tempo game. I think that it suits the players that we have.

RE: Hoops recruiting - BlazinBham - 04-11-2020 03:31 PM

Now we want bigs? Some of us have been saying sign some bigs for 5-6 years. We’ve been signing stretch fours who can’t shoot or make bunnies, now suddenly they’re big losses when they decide to transfer?

RE: Hoops recruiting - The Answer UAB - 04-11-2020 03:44 PM

A couple of agile/versatile big men who could shoot a little bit would be nice. I want guys thag will fit an uptempo, modern basketball style of play.

RE: Hoops recruiting - ATTALLABLAZE - 04-11-2020 03:45 PM

Gone me a Gabe Kennedy or two.

RE: Hoops recruiting - The Answer UAB - 04-11-2020 03:48 PM

I would take that type of player as well

Can I get a Will Campbell glass cleaner?

At 6'8" he averaged 8.4 rebounds per game.
