NY is closing casinos, gyms, theaters, bars & restaurants all at 8 pm today. Will allow carry out.
NY all government offices are reducing workforce by 50%
Bet the fed to follow.

The state of MD just said at 5 today all restaurants, bars, gyms, movie theaters closed. I suspect VA will do something similar next.

People who don’t take this seriously do so at their own peril and sadly the peril of their families.

Yes the average person will be fine but the hospitals being overwhelmed by the vulnerable will be the real issue.

My wife has asthma. This could kill her if she got it bad. No joke, I could give a damn about a strong economy. Shut everything down for two weeks since its been reported lots of folks are still congregating in bars etc., such as last weekend in Ocean View for St. Patrick's parties. Hell, Ireland, where I travel to a lot, has closed bars and canceled St. Patricks Day Parades. Ireland and bars closed?? Yep.This is a world wide pandemic, need to think bigger then just ourselves.

The economy should be the last thing on our minds. It will recover, it always does.

Agree 100%. My wife also has asthma. I'm over 60 years old. We are hunkered down doing what the CDC recommends. Yesterday we went for a drive just to get our of the house and passed a Best Buy. People streaming in and out of the store like it was a typical Sunday. My wife and I looked at each other and said, "What the hell?"

They're getting a 3rd refrigerator to store their food.

Ikea was packed on Sunday. Parents bringing their kids in strollers at the mall not worried the little tikes could be exposed. The drive thru at Chic-Fil-a wrapped around the restaurant as usual. At least from what I saw over the weekend, there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency. Yes, the shelves are empty in the hand sanitizer, bleach and toilet paper sections but no one seems to be in a panic.

Tom Hanks and his wife say they contracted the virus and yet were released from the hospital yesterday. Both are 63.

The CDC says there's a 98% chance of survival.

and now this from the origin of the coronavirus,

I think what you saw at Best Buy was indicative of the mood in the area. People are still going about their everyday lives.

I don't really have any concerns for my immediate family...we're relatively young and the kids are all healthy. I am concerned for my mom and my in-laws, all in their 70s and each with a plethora of underlying issues, the folks I know with asthma, the double-lung transplant recipient, etc. Those folks are the reason we've scaled back our interaction. I'll be damned if I'm going down in family history as the one who gave granddad the virus.

This is, at the very least, a bit overstated. I huge number of people are going to be critically impacted by the economic effects of this if its not gotten under control quickly. Yes, the stock market will be fine in the long run, and so will the economy, but in the short term, hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people are going to lose jobs in the service industry, retail, resort, travel, and all of those fields that exists to service them. We should not be shrugging off the economic impact of this. It has the potential to cause every bit as much suffering, if not more, than this virus does.

Today, I was tasked with listing my team in the order they should be laid off in case it comes to that. Our company has never laid anyone off. We have never even considered laying people off. A month ago we were looking to add two people to my team, now we are preparing for what would be the worst day in our company's 15 year history.

I was told a VB ocean front hotel already laid off all of it's hourly staff. Small businesses are going to be impacted greatly in the short-term for sure.

Right, the economy is going to take a huge hit in the next 2-3 months (if not longer). However, it will recover and people will find jobs again.

The alternative is millions of deaths in the US.

I say that as a small business owner that is impacted by this.

Just saw we are looking at 20% unemployment near the end. Saw a stat that 40% of working people (the working poor) don't have $400 in the bank. This are the ones working 3 part time jobs, feeling for them and the others who'll be hit financially.

ODU closed for the spring semester. All classes going to an online format.

Chesapeake Public Schools closed "until further notice".

I guess CPS still had teachers in buildings until today's Public Health Order from Northam. "Closure only extends until March 27 2020, at the direction of the Governor..."

The Imperial College report is out.

If no measures were taken they projected 2.2 million deaths and 81% of the population infected.
