COVID-19 - mrjoolius - 09-02-2020 08:55 AM

Great results so far. True test begins, I'm told, as the bulk of the upper class returns this week. Most of the other major Virginia universities have struggled in this regard.
Williamsburg area has a low positive rate. If they can keep the positive cases low and contained over the next 2 weeks, they may get through this wave.

NCAA basketball news...

Nothing set in stone, but looks like the push is for bball season to start Nov 25.

I really think basketball has a chance to play most games. I wish we could figure out how to leverage a bubble concept.

Somewhat amazed that JMU did not require students to be tested before returning to campus for fall semester.

JMU is 100% virtual starting today. That, according to my friend whose daughter is a junior.

JMU is asking their students to go home.

Just think about all that extra money you will make with a degree in learning the personal computer or VCR repair.

JMU was concerned with playing football whilst we were concerned with safely returning to classes. Too soon for us to crow about it as this could go south in a hurry once upperclassmen get on campus.

Of course, we all want our CAA mates to be safe and learn in a safe environment.

Tech Coach Fuente very concerned with a recent outbreak of Covid-19 on his team. Traces back to the arrival of students to campus.

Re: JMU

While obviously it is unfortunate they had a spike of infections, I'm not sure the best decision is to make all the potentially infected kids scatter to the wind...

I probably would've voted to keep them on campus, but my butt is not on the line for 9 figure lawsuits.

COVID-19 - Tribal - 09-02-2020 08:33 PM

University of Illinois — with its massive testing program — is today asking students to refrain from any socializing for the next 2 weeks.

“Two weeks now gives you the chance for the rest of the semester together”

This is in response to high # of positive cases on campus. https://t.co/sfnHZB1zr7

Now 6768 students tested, all negative, but 2 employees tested positive since campus opened last week (.09%). Let's hope the two employees will be fine and their AOR is sanitized.

I had to google AOR. Were/are you military?

COVID-19 - Tribal - 09-03-2020 07:11 AM

From WVU: We’re disappointed to see students ignoring state and local protocols for distancing and gathering at bars. It’s critical that we come together as a University to keep our community safe. We're not doing our best. We must do better.

I'm not military and did not have to google it. I have no idea why I didn't have to google it.

Military terminology is common in most offices of the federal government and law enforcement (township, city, county, and state), especially in radio & telephonic traffic.

I take this as a testament to how responsible our students are. It could always go to hell in a handbasket, but just looking at how many schools (see, e.g., UNC-CHeat and NCSU) have dealt with outbreaks from students deciding they're doing whatever they want, everyone else be damned, is really refreshing.

COVID-19 - zablenoise - 09-03-2020 10:59 AM

I know students are pretty worried about the reliability of the test manufacturer so I'm really hoping these numbers are as good as they seem.

I get concerns, but if there was a problem with reliability, wouldn't you hear a peep from the area medical community about the misleading test results and the actual cases rolling through their facilities for treatment?
