This tread is on the AAC board. RE: Where will Temple play FB in 2020? - DoubleRSU - 02-09-2020 01:48 PM All they need is Drexel and St Joes to start football go FBS and the 3 of them pitch in for a shared stadium Sincerely, Davey RE: Where will Temple play FB in 2020? - IWokeUpLikeThis - 02-09-2020 02:27 PM (02-09-2020 01:02 PM)panite Wrote:(02-09-2020 11:53 AM)IWokeUpLikeThis Wrote: https://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/02/08/where-will-temple-play-football-in-2020/ I just read the thread and someone said Temple shouldn’t play at Franklin Field because the Sandusky scandal happened at Penn. Franklin Field has some neat history, but it's incredibly run down. Would not be a good sell to recruits RE: Where will Temple play FB in 2020? - The Cutter of Bish - 02-09-2020 07:08 PM It will probably work out between the school and the Linc. No doubt Talen would like more football games, but they should have expanded with or without Villanova moving up. Even if to just get over the 20K threshold. And, if the thought of Talen offended some with its size, location, and distance from Villanova’s campus, then what of Temple? A little too intimate as is. I think Temple could achieve a similar effect at Talon without college students. But the school should look to build a stadium near the school but away from residential areas. RE: Where will Temple play FB in 2020? - GoldenWarrior11 - 02-09-2020 08:09 PM Without a P6 marketing campaign, an ESPN TV deal and FBS football, Villanova is Philadelphia's power conference representative- the most recent football score shows it. Oh, Union games are quite charged. Talen is good for what it does, but, college football poses a challenge. IIRC, during the Villanova upgrade discussion, Talen lobbied hard for the hosting duties. They wanted VU to help fund the expansion, and I think the number upped to 22K? Essentially, an added deck on the one side? Take shots at Temple as some will, even 20+K is small for AAC, and the location, Chester, suffers from an image problem. Even if inside the stadium is fine, Chester is not so great. And getting there? Shuttle busses? Waiting for Septa regional rail? Yeah, no. At, least, not for this role. What’s bittersweet about Franklin Field is that, while old and another school’s field, if you can’t have the stadiums along I-95, this one is the next best for its accessibility. It' looks old because it is (1895). But if it means saving $2M from playing at the Linc, it's an option. It’s not like money is an issue. I’m sure they have some uppity alums that would rather sit in box seats. Why not make give it a small renovation? RE: Where will Temple play FB in 2020? - panite - 02-10-2020 09:24 AM With a block on the new OCS by City Council and the local residents a deal will be reached at the LINC between the Eagles management team, Temple, and state and city officials. The LINC is the perfect place for Temple without an OCS right off 95 in the Sportsplex with the parking and tailgating advantages, and the Verizon Center in the thick of things. Anything else at this point without the OCS makes Temple football look like a second class citizen in Philly and in the college football world after they have come so far from the Old BE Days when they were actually kicked out of the conference. The deal is for the next five years, with a five-year option for the Owls. Temple still hopes to build its own stadium. The strong preference is for an on-campus stadium, but all ideas are on the table, according to multiple sources. In that agreement, the payment of $15 million was made up front. After the 2017 season, Temple had two one-year options and exercised both. The second option expired after this past season. Those one-year deals cost more per year than the $1 million average of the previous deal, according to a Temple source. Another source said the fee was comparable after taking into account inflation and the present-day value of the original deal. Financial terms of the extension are not known. Temple’s original plan was to build an on-campus stadium off 15th Street. But for that to happen, it will need for 15th Street to be closed along the two blocks between Norris Street and Montgomery Avenue. The school has not received the legislative permission to do so. Neighbors in that area have opposed the proposed 35,000-seat stadium, which has been projected to cost $130 million. Discussions have included building an off-campus stadium, but several Temple sources say the school prefers having a stadium on campus. The school thinks it will be more profitable to own its own stadium. In addition to the rental fee, the school received no revenue from parking and only 10% of concessions, according to a Temple source. Another Temple source estimated that with game-day expenses such as security and other personnel, it probably costs, including the rent, $3 million a year to play at the Linc. Capacity at the Linc is 69,796, and Temple hasn’t been able to fill half the stadium in most games. Here are Temple’s announced home attendance averages (and overall records) in recent seasons, according to NCAA.org and the American Athletic Conference, the Owls’ league.
