Commercial Appeal Article - danny1 - 02-09-2020 09:27 AM
Great article in The Commercial Appeal this morning by Giannotto. Puts the present situation in perspective and explains why it is nuts to blame Penny and the team for not meeting preseason expectations. Very well written and perfectly logical. Those of you who relish tearing down Penny and our players should read it.

Whole lotta things out of anyone's control have happened.
Still can't lose that game yesterday.
They gotta win everything else at home, steal one they are not favored in on the road and get to the conference tournament final to have any shot at the big dance.
Otherwise 6 years in a row sitting it out.

That’s all well and good with the local media, but the narrative across college basketball is big mouth coach talked national championship with his #1 class and how other coaches were jealous of him and here we are headed to the NIT again in year 2. It’s a horrible look

Sports can be very humbling... which is why it’s usually best to be humble and gracious instead of boastful and bold. Penny, as long as I’ve followed him, was always gracious and humble. This year, with the smoke and the jealousy talk, seemed out of character for him.

I am not upset because I am emotionally checked out this season. But, I dont care what Gianotto says or how he tries to spin it.. We lost to a sub 500 team, coached by Brian Gregory, on our home floor. If we had 3 scholarship players available, that should not have happened.

The preseason hype was around having the top ranked class.
Then the NCAA showed up and derailed it.
Then Wiseman listened to outsiders and family and left instead of sticking with his teammates and mentor.
Then came the flu bug.
Then came the injuries.
That's how the losses came. Flu and injuries.
The above had nothing to do with Penny at all or any hype letdown.
Sh!t happens.

I don’t think anyone is going to bash you for your choice. There may be some who don’t feel the same way you do (and there’s nothing wrong with that) but I highly doubt anyone will bash you for it.
