Bubble Watch: (**** ESPN) - Nameless - 02-06-2020 12:16 PM

A couple weeks back I asked why I hadn't seen any "Bubble Watch" articles from ESPN, thinking they usually came out in mid January and not the beginning of December. A handful of people told me the original author of that column now worked for The Athletic, the piece he puts out for The Athletic was significantly better, and overall the service was worth the subscription price.

Just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge how correct you all were! I just read through the AAC portion of ESPN's "Bubble Watch" and it is hot garbage at best. They mention Cincy multiple times when talking about Houston and Memphis... Then don't even include them in the "work left to do" section, despite them having a similar NET ranking as Memphis and a clear shot at an at large bid...

Not sure if it's lazy journalism or ESPN stunting for the A5 as usual, but either way **** ESPN and their trash reporting 01-lauramac201-lauramac201-lauramac2

If Cincy wins at Wichita, I expect they'll show up on the watch.

Here's a link to ESPN's bracketology

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

They've got 4 AAC teams right now including Tulsa & Memphis as 11 & 12 seeds respectively. Houston is currently a 7 & WSU is an 8. Memphis is last in the 'Last 4 in' and Cincy the 1st listed in the 'Next 4 out' section at this time. It was updated 2 days ago and seems to be updated every 4 days or so.

RE: Bubble Watch: (**** ESPN) - e-parade - 02-06-2020 01:21 PM

Dayton as a 2 seed in Cleveland would be amazing for attendance in the first 2 rounds there.

Houston vs. URI in the first round would be an interesting one. URI has some good familiarity with Jarreau, having played against him twice a year while he was back at UMass.

I just updated the resumes post but the thing that is really hurting Cincy is the fact that they have zero q1 wins combined with 3 Q3 losses. They would be safely in if they had only one or the other going against them there.

If we win tonight at Wichita, we'd be in the field.

It's absurd not to have us at least on the 'watch' category considering we are universally on the bubble around the cutline.

I agree, but I think it's crazy not to have us included in a 'watch' list. It's not supposed to be only for teams that are already in the field.

FWIW, in The Athletic Bubble Watch Cincinnati is included in the "work to do" section along with Memphis and Tulsa. Houston and Wichita State are in the "should be in" category

RE: Bubble Watch: (**** ESPN) - panicstricken - 02-06-2020 02:01 PM

Tulsa is just there bc we are in 1st place.

For Tulsa to be a true AT Large they have to at minunun win the next four games.

I feel like it's time to make a statement and give Frank Haith a lifetime contract. This Tulsa team in first place having beaten Houston, Wichita and Memphis. Only losing to Cincinnati by a mere 31 points. Just an elite coach.

A Tulsa fan's head just exploded somewhere

I liked that post a lot friend.

Frank Haith and his 60 point a game offense are clearly elite.

We are truly flagship.

They do need to win the next four but what they really need is a couple of Q1 wins. They’re doing well with Q2 but I don’t think that’s good enough. The committee has shown they’ll overlook an early bad loss or two if there are Q1 wins to offset. If Tulsa can’t pull off an upset in Houston or Wichita I think they’ll need to win the conference tournament.

Hoping that WSU and UConn can improve their NET's so they can count as Q1.

Exactly, I was shocked not to see Cincy listed. Had to be lazy journalism...

I think we'll improve enough to get there for ya

Both Cincinnati and Tulsa joined Memphis in "Work to do" in today's update on ESPN's watch.

We won't! (well not to Top 30, if Tulsa can beat us at CKA then they will get Q1)

Also thanks UConn for moving up to Q1 for us!

We should stay there for you, after our next 3 or 4 games we hit an easier stretch of the schedule 04-cheers

Good, both should have been there to begin with.

I find it amusing that Tulsa lost and they were added to the "work to do" portion, unless they were only added to it because they lost AQ placeholder status. I'm always quick to assume lazy journalism with ESPN though
