Cuse Elevating - TexanMark - 02-04-2020 10:10 PM

Paying big boy money to grab Arizona State's DC to run Cuse's new 3-3-5.

We lost our first DC (our 2nd choice, Zach Arnett) when he snuck away to Leach and Miss St after 2 weeks.

Our AD opened up the check book to get Babers's original first choice: Tony White.

That’s good

Very good recovery. Congrats!

Great news, big boys!

Short interview with Phoenix Radio after it came out he was leaving. No registration required to listen

3-3-5 is a good fit for Cuse as we struggle to recruit game changers on the DL. The Rocky Long coaching tree is a good place to find 3-3-5 guys.

We'll see how fast the team adapts. I'm under no delusion this instantly will be great. I'm just hoping it allows the team a chance to outscore others and they get back into the conversation for the Top 25 in 2020.

I'm glad to see some of that big money that Cuse earns going back out to pay for the best coaches available. It can only mean good things to come.

with the bar to get to the Orange Bowl so low last year, I think every team with football aspirations would do well to try to upgrade - after all, you don't have to be better than Clemson, just the other 13 teams!

It appears they are paying him (White) at least $800K but it appears be closer to $1M. Ofcourse SU doesn't have to disclose salaries. Although Cuse matched Miss State's offer of $900K + bonuses in an effort to keep him (Arnett). Our original offer to Arnett was $600K.

FWIW: I think our new OC (Sterlin Gilbert) is making about $600K. If he succeeds he will be ripe for plucking unless Cuse renegotiates his contract. The AD will need to be ready to reward him later this year if deserved.

In today's market, those numbers don't sound like top shelf programs to me. By "opening the checkbook" I would have expected $1 million or more. $600K for an offensive coordinator is only good if he isn't good enough for anybody to want to poach him.

I'd say it is middle of the road P5 and to me that is Big Boy $$. ASU fans are saying Cuse offered significantly more than $800K. Cuse will never pay Top 10 money. We only averaged 42.5K attendance last year and we don't have the the booster base to write "stupid money" offers to pay for coaching hires and mistakes.

Ken, it seems that he was good enough for SU to poach him. And whatever it took to poach him was obviously just enough. The first guy that SU offered turned down $900,000 to take a job at Mississippi State. It only seems logical that he was making at least that, especially if he was SU's first target.

Apparently the narrative he was our original first choice was wrong. Rocky Long was the first choice.

I hope our coaches are quick studies as he is the only guy with extensive 3-3-5 experience. Sounds like it can easily morph into 4-2-5 when conditions dictate.

That makes a lot of sense now that you say that. It never added up to me that Rocky Long was at Syracuse to give advice.

Ah, but can it morph into a 6-2-3?

Enjoyed the article. Love history, liked the Greasy Neale story about trying to pep talk his team saying ‘his sick mother was in the stands and a win might make her well’ for 3 games in a row.
