As I said on the main board, terrible timing. National signing day is tomorrow, and it is less important than it used to be with the early signing period but still significant.

And frankly, who would want this job at this point in the year? You'll have someone else's recruiting class that was torpedoed, all the good assistants are hired, and if you were a great candidate then you were already hired somewhere else because it's February. Just wait nine or ten months and the carousal will be up and running again.

Luke Fickell would be great. Pat Narduzzi would be awesome so we can curb stomp him and his smug face some more. I would likely hire from within and hope for the best. If not, it's easy to cut ties.

I'm sure many Pitt fans wouldn't mind Michigan State taking Pat Narduzzi off their hands. It appears he has hit a ceiling with no more than 8 wins in Pittsburgh.

To be fair, the ceiling in Pittsburgh is limited. And also to be fair, the ACC is essentially a G6 plus Clemson so he should do better.

Pittsburgh plays in the Coastal Division, which is the where the ACC's basketball first schools (UVA, UNC and Duke) are located. And with Miami and GT playing poorly, I expected a two horse race between Pitt and VPI. But it never materialized. No school in that division has dominated in football. Really none of these schools were as good as their win/loss record suggested.

Anyone else underwhelmed by Mel Tucker being the new coach? I mean, Michigan State was in a tough spot but they allegedly doubled his salary from Colorado. If you're going to do that, might as well have made the same offer to better candidates.

I still believe hiring from within and enduring a rough 2020 and cleaning house after the season (or after potential penalties expire) as the best approach. G5 head coaches and P5 coordinators turned down the position so it clearly has some baggage despite being a step up.
