Our game Saturday with UMKC is scaring the **** out of me. On paper, NMSU should win this one. But after watching KC in person in Las Cruces I was really impressed by their play. They gave us everything they had to the final second. Anytime a team plays that hard We gotta be ready so we don’t get caught slipping.

RE: WAC Basketball week 14 (WAC week 6) - NeptunianEmp - 02-06-2020 10:17 PM

Chi State played hard tonight. Had a player who broke a tooth and kept playing. I bet they win a game or two minimum the rest of the season.

We softened 'em up for you yesterday.

UMKC is the kind of team that has a (long) shot at taking down NMSU but could also (possibly) lose at Chicago State.

Looks like we toughened up Chicago State for UTRGV, they lead by 10 at the half. Might get their first conference win today.

We managed to escape. Fortunately for us, WAC teams have started fouling Varner a lot. Maybe he got some tips from Levi on how to get under people's skin?

You should have listened in on the broadcast Sean Rhea had to be separated from Levi before the second of the game. Things are getting interesting.

Not only does Levi get under his opponent's skin but he also gets under his teamate's skin.

The Aggies win again. 19-6 and 10-0 in WAC play. You're NEXT Seattle!!!!

RE: WAC Basketball week 14 (WAC week 6) - FINALFOUR1970SWEETSIXTEEN1992 - 02-09-2020 12:49 AM

It might not be official but you might as well CROWN the Aggies as the WAC Regular Season Champions, 5th title in 7 years.

Well, unless NMSU has a complete collapse, NMSU should be the #1 seed in the WAC tournament now; holding a four game lead over their main competition.

Let’s face it, NMSU has only one game to concern themselves with and that is the conference championship game in Vegas. I was at the GCU at CBU game last night and you can see the offensive talent that GCU has, but I don’t know if they can play enough defense to beat NMSU.

The ball movement last night by GCU was terrific. They were making CBU work on defense and CBU does not like to work that hard on defense. It was a good game with a sellout crowd (5,050). GCU shot 62% from the floor and 61% from the three point line. Carlos Johnson looked like the player I saw last season and Milan Acquaah with 30 points and 10 assists looked like the WAC POY. An entertaining game.

RE: WAC Basketball week 14 (WAC week 6) - Country_Wisdom_359 - 02-09-2020 01:50 PM

GCU hangs 103 on CBU and splits the series this season. Perhaps a rubber match in Vegas? GCU in third 1.5 games behind CBU.

GCU finally has double digit wins for the season (10-13) with last night’s victory. Tied for fifth fewest in the conference. Only two teams have overall winning records.

It was a good game and hard fought battle. CBU is still the likely favorite to play opposite NMSU in the bracket in Vegas. At least there’s a decent race for second place. Still a few games to play. As we’ve seen this year, anything can happen in WAC play. Well, maybe except the Aggies losing... no one has accomplished that feat this year.

No rubber game in Vegas. As a transitioning team, CBU is not yet eligible for tournament play, conference or NCAA, although they might get one of the satellite tournaments, CBI etc.

The ironic thing is that I think as a UMKC fan I would rather play NMSU than UTRGV in the tournament. Just the match-up for UMKC this year. Need to get Javan White healthy. He can't only play 10 minutes. UMKC too small without him.

We did have a sellout last night too so I guess NMSU brings the crowd and will be hard to see anyone in Summit bring that kind of enthusiasm.

NMSU always brings the biggest crowd to Chicago St too. CSU even increased prices from $10 to $15 because of it.

GCU has brought the biggest crowds to CBU. They were rivals in the past and CBU fans seem to really get excited about playing them. I suspect that Dixie State, an old rival in the PacWest, will also be a natural rival in the WAC for CBU. As for NMSU, they are more of the "big dog" in the conference than a natural rival for anyone. At CBU, I think they genuinely dislike GCU, where with NMSU they respect the program and just want to beat a good team.

I see a rivalry budding between GCU and NMSU. Not the same as we have with UNM and UTEP (over 100 years of playing them) but it is a rivalry that can get the juices flowing in each of the fan bases.

One of the things I know Coach Majerle harped on after the game in Las Cruces was that they didn’t share the ball very well. He made the comment that at NMSU, they don’t care who gets the shot, and that wasn’t necessarily the case at GCU (at least for that game, anyway). If they get that figured out, they could be an offensive nightmare for teams.

GO AGGIES!!!!

Yeah, sure... GCU and NMSU have the kind of budding rivalry like a nail has with a hammer, or a bug has with a windshield. 03-rotfl03-rotfl03-rotfl
