Future NCAA D1 Split For All Sports:1A and 1AA - DavidSt - 02-03-2020 02:01 PM

The future with the expanding of conferences, the rise cause safety and health of athletes and pay to play could hurt all of NCAA, NCCAA, NAIA and NJCAA including independent schools not in any of these governing bodies. We could see new conferences form and more non-football only conferences at the 1AA levels.

Here is the goals of 1A and 1AA will look like.
1A will be 2 tiers of FBS football schools. It is only for schools with football. Schools like Little Rock, UTA and Wichita State have to add football or downgrade to a 1AA conference. Big East will be 1AA. Tier 1 of the FBS would be for schools to give the full amount of scholarships. That could be 7 conferences except for a school like San Jose State who could be Tier 2.
Tier 2 FBS would offer between 63 at the current FCS level to up to FBS level max. We could see several FCS schools could join the Tier 2 ranks. This could open up more bowl games in the future like NDSU would have gone to the NY6 Bowl while Boise State took on Memphis. Tier 2 could have a 4 team playoffs for Tier 2 Championship.
Tier 3 FCS is to offered up to 63 scholarships.
Tier 4 FCS would be non-scholarship football which could attract the large D3 schools.
All D1 non-football schools will be 1AA.
D2 schools could move up to Tier 3 since they would be able to fit in there without adding many scholarships for a while. Some big name D2 conferences could upgrade to 1AA status like Gulf South or Lone Star Conference could be tier 3 FCS conferences.

Most of Big Sky, CAA, some Southern, some OVC, some Southland, all of MVFC, North Alabama, Kennesaw State, Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T, NC Central, Fordham, Dixie State, Texas Southern, Dayton, and possible D2 schools that fit the category. FBS stadium attendance will be lowered to 12,000.

The FCS conferences could rearranged members to fit the conferences while D2 schools can fill in other spots. This is more to ease the cost for all sports from top to bottom.

1A men's basketball will go back to 64 team field and 1AA would be for the same 64 team field. The NIT, CBI and other tournaments could be the 1AA schools combined effort.

Genius move to give Arkansas Tech a shot at a national title while simultaneously removing Gonzaga, Villanova, Butler, etc.

Why would pay for play or player wellness effect scholarships? Why would basketball he effected at all when all D1 teams offer the same amount of scholarships? Under your multi tier system why not just simply merge all D1 football and just have the NCAA state D1 football max scholarship limit and have each conference have a minimum scholarship requirement. I.E. conferences determine scholarships as long as it doesn't go over the NCAA limit.

Just to expand on this. In the last 10 years the teams who would be eliminated from the tourny under these insane ramblings have made 7 final fours (Nova x2, Butler X2, Zags, Wichita & Loyola Chi), 5 finals (Nova x2, Butler x2 & Zags) and won 2 championships (Nova x2). Going back 20 years adds 4 more final fours (Nova, Marq, GTown & G Mason). You can add 4 Final Fours and 3 titles to those lists once UConn rejoins the BE next year.
