UB favored by 4.

RE: Game Week: UB and @Akron - truEMU07 - 02-04-2020 11:44 AM

KenPom has Buffalo favored by just 1 point and gives us a 47% chance of winning... Some of our better numbers since MAC play started.

Obviously the UB offense is WAY down compared to years past, but because of their status over the last few years they've been on national TV quite a bit this season. My biggest worries for tonight's game:
1) Graves, Jordan and Segu can all shoot to varying degrees. Will they take over the game?
2) Can Toure take over inside? The UB presence on the interior is considerably down without Perkins.
3) Will our defense force turnovers? When Buffalo is going good, they're pushing the ball in transition. When they're not, they're coughing it up.

As for us:
1) Will we be good or bad from the charity stripe? We weren't very good against Toledo and still pulled out the win. Can't bank on that happening again.
2) Is the lineup we saw Saturday what we'll see going forward? It was a tight rotation of six guys, plus Dillard and King in emergency duty. Miami had shades of this lineup, but Gibbs was cut out completely. We haven't seen Barnes since the Bowling Green game.
3) Does the one win against Toledo give us our confidence back? I sure hope so. But if Buffalo comes out and punches us in the mouth, who knows what we'll see from Murphy and Co.

I'm not going to go as far as to say that Saturday's win reminded me of the team from early in the season. We were playing a lot more guys at that point than we did on Saturday. Now that we are in the two-game-a-week schedule, maybe we'll see a shorter rotation more regularly.

I’m predicting two losses. Toledo not that good! As I predicted and some of you laughed, Toure is the best center in the conference and outplayed Knapcke. Another All Conference center wasted.

Yup I laughed, he has issues. Then I focused on him and I realized that the guy is tremendously gifted. The only jump ball he lost this year was due to a lack of hustle from his teammates, he tapped it to the intended target. He is quick for his size, coachable and has really good lift. Honestly I agree with you, this guy was an All MAC center. The question remains, who is more culpable, our big man coach Mondro or our head coach. Neither seems very effective.

With proper coaching and development, Toure could make an NBA roster at some point. Definitely G League.

Toure's a very good MAC player, and agree......I also thought James was special as well, but Murphy hasn't played him the past 7 games! I predict we upset Buffalo, and lose to Akron!

We are up four at the half

RE: Game Week: UB and @Akron - emu steve - 02-04-2020 07:55 PM

Good first half.

RE: Game Week: UB and @Akron - EagleSam - 02-04-2020 08:01 PM

They crept back in as soon as Toure sat for an extended period. Binelli getting shredded inside. Before that, we were tremendous on defense. Free throw shooting, again, is killing us. Should be up by a lot more.

Loving Groce’s aggression. We need him to keep attacking. Their guards are great defensively, but he (and Toure) have mismatches they can exploit.

This team goes as Toure goes! Toure only has taken 4 shots, and made 3! Another big man being wasted! FT shooting's again really poor! 4 fouls on Toure!

Ballard saved us at the end. I think he’s earned himself some minutes next game.

Spottsville had a HUGE layup with about 30 seconds left that put us in the clear for good. What a shifty move that was. He’s improved tremendously.

Happy these guys didn’t give up when Toure fouled out and we were trailing. Gutty win.

2 wins in a row! 8 wins from an extension! Not far from A first round MAC home game!
