WBB vs Drexel 2/2/2020 - ParentofJMUMRDs - 02-01-2020 06:29 PM
The second half of this weekends 2 game road trip is Sunday at 2PM vs Drexel at the DAK in Philly. Wife and I will not be able to make it as we need some downtime from all the travel we have been doing since the first of the year. We will be watching on Flo and ROOTIN!!! as usual.
Games vs Drexel are always tough low scoring affairs as the Dragons style of play always seems to make scoring a premium. With the Dukes playing well and Kayla back and looking like she hasn't missed a beat should be a good game. Will be watching of Flo. Hope there is a good turnout of purple clad fans tomorrow.
On a related note at Fridays game vs Delaware I was talking to a Hens fan who's son went to Drexel a while back and he followed the Dragons for a long while. He mentioned that the longtime Villanova WBB coach was retiring after this season and has heard rumblings that Nova was very interested in bringing Drexel coach Denise Dillon on board as their next WBB coach. Denise is a Nova grad so it would make a lot of sense. The fan did state that he had heard nothing official just some low level under the radar rumblings. Should be interesting to watch this for any further developments.

Big game. One of the few, perhaps only, CAA games that could help our SOS and RPI in addition to the obvious advantage in the race to the top seed in the CAAT.

I hope Villanova will steal Dillon for their HC job. Maybe that will make Drexel less formidable for the next couple of seasons.

Drexel up 18-5 at the end of the 1st quarter. Dukes getting some shots but nothing is falling. Only made 2 shots plus a FT for the 1st quarter. 5 pts might be the lowest they have scored in a quarter for a long time if ever.
Dukes shot 11% for the 1st quarter. Ugh!!

Women playing horrible. Sean needs to rip some arse at the half. Shooting which has been around 40% is in the low 20's in 1at Half.

Slightly better second half but Drexel still leads at the half 33-22.
Dukes in some foul trouble with KCW, Devon and Lexie all with 2 fouls. Kayla and Devon had to sit out a major portion of the 2nd quarter and the Dukes had some issues on the boards as a result.
Shooting was a bit better in the 2nd quarter but still more than a few wild shots which had one scratching ones head.
2nd half getting ready to start, Dukes need to play better to pull this one out.

Yep. All things considered, being down 11 doesn't seem terribly bad. Yet, in the big picture it really is. This team once again comes out flat. It's been a problem for most all season.
I like the way Drexel spreads the floor offensively. Great spacing. We've got to defend the 3 and just chip away with some stops. Our passing is too soft. Way too many wild shots. Hate to say it, but offensively we looked like our men's team in that first half...and, by golly, that is far from a compliment.

Dukes on a 7-0 run to open the 3rd quarter now down by 4 33-29. Drexel with the timeout to talk things over. Keep it up Dukes!!
Update: 4 minute media timeout Drexel up by 5 39-34. Dukes got within 3 before Drexel hit a couple to stretch it to 7 and Maddie Green knocked one down to make it a 5 pt lead at the timeout.

End of the 3rd quarter Drexel up by 7 44-37. Dukes did get within 3 but Drexel stretched it out to 10 before the Dukes got it back to 7.
Still 1 quarter to go, Dukes need to play tough to pull this one out.

Drexel comes out hot on an 8-0 run and are up by 15 at the 7 minute media timeout. Score is 52-37. Dukes looking flat out horrible today.
Always seems to happen. Drexel always seems to bring out the worst in the Dukes.

Drexel up 62-39 with about 4 minutes to go. Dukes are playing right into Drexels hands today. Credit Drexel with some tough D and have hit a bunch of 3 pt shots while the Dukes have missed most of theirs.
Ugly ugly game. Reminds me of a game or two during the CAA playoffs at the Showplace Arena.

This game is ridiculous. The women are just not in it. But the huge point difference is from the refs. They just called a foul on Kayla and even their announcers said it didn’t happen. Can’t feel good to win or lose a game because the refs picked a side.

Down by 23 with 4 minutes left. Agree on the call against Kayla. As I've said before on this board... "show me a bald headed white guy ref in the CAA (both MBB and WBB) and I'll show you the worst". This guy is the absolute worst.
Having said that, the refs aren't the difference. Coach O's teams lose a lot of big games when they matter most. Frustrating.
