To paraphrase Gov Hogan of Maryland, infection rate is moving so fast that each hour comes with new stats; he was pretty rattled and said testing will only fill the hospitals.

Gov Hogan explained that his state is focused on creating more hospital space asap for those who need and will need hospitalization and respiratory equipment.

Obviously, his definition of "moving so fast" must substantially differ from mine. to me, "moving so fast" would be 100s per day in a state like Maryland.

The good ole regular flu gets about 250,000 Americans a day, this corona seems to get somewhere under a buck. Our rate is running about 4 cases per 1,000,000 residents, one of the lowest of any impacted countries out there.

Also, we should just do what ever Japan is doing. They have basically stopped it in its tracks. They have only added a few cases over the last two weeks and they were one of the early hot spots.

EDIT: I just looked, Maryland has 12 friggin confirmed cases. Twelve. Where does he get "changing ever hour"? Has he only been looking at data for the last half day?

lol I don’t think we are privy to the same info a governor gets.

We ain’t in the same loops. Trying to understand this thing logically just isn’t working.... for me anyway.

What I notice most is the switch that politicians have made from ‘nothing to see here move along’ to that ‘deer in the headlights’ look.

So they're closing schools down for a week or two, and asking everyone to stay and keep their kids home....then, so these same kids can get fed their school lunches, they are asking parents to bring their kids to gather at just a few of those same schools' cafeterias for lunch at the same time. Gub'mint logic. WTH?

Yep, and the first thing he did was to kill an Obama era FDA policy that prevented just that. The guy has had to undo a lot of "stupid" that was left before him.

Obama was a mole that set the stage for U.S. failures, and nobody should ever forget it! It will take a while to find all the weakened infrastructure from that termite's term.

Exactly, and that's what should have been done from the start. Cut CDC and FDA and NIH out of the picture, and let the private sector handle it.

BTW I've heard that West Virginia is the last state to have not recorded an official case of the virus. So in this new version of March Madness, they are the winners.

As someone born in WV and having grown up in the region, I'm just glad a Texan could stop ****ing his cow long enough to make that comment.

On a serious note, WV has always been the best place to be to avoid calamity, be it this, floods, earthquakes, tornados, monsoons, etc.

Sorry to hear this. But if your child is worried, let them know that children are doing very well with this bad virus. Really it's just hitting older people and folks with underlying health issues the worst.

In fact, none of the 5421 worldwide deaths have been to anyone under the age of 10 (although maybe don't mention that fact to them). Only 0.2 percent ages 10-19 (which equates to 11 worldwide deaths).

My allergies were horrible today and it was 80 degrees. Felt bad sneezing all over the place, but I don't have the damn virus.

Extremely rare. A lot of the really big snows skirt WV and go up the east coast. They do get good snowfall in the mountains, which is needed for the ski resorts.
