Defensive coaching changes, all new position coaches 2020. - mayhem - 01-12-2020 05:21 AM

Clune (LB) and Edwards (DL) are not listed on the current coaching list on the UofM website, am I to assume they have been terminated?

MacIntyre ran 3-4 defense at Ole Miss, will we be going back to 3-4 from our current (2019) 4-3 def?

Not sure if McIntyre will bring the 3-4 or multiple to Memphis. He probably is being allowed to choose "his" position coaches.

As he should be, it may take a year or two to get where he wants

Pretty sure JLD ran a 3-3-5, although toward the end of his 2nd stint here he was mixing in some 2-4-5 after his 3 man front couldn’t hold the line of scrimmage anymore.

He had his time and place, best to just remember the good times & not try to relive the entire experience
. 04-cheers

Ummmm no. I’d highly doubt he’ll get to choose his position coaches. Silverfield will hire who he wants and McIntyre will work with them.

Are you sure? It seems like a bad way to work if you want him to be successful. It would be like the AD telling the new head coach he had to keep a coach from the previous regime on staff. Where have I seen that scenario before...?

I never understood JLD's 3-3-5...it's a gimmick and you gotta have some super fast kids to pull it off.

Even if the DC doesn't entirely control the hire, I'm sure he has a lot of input into the decision.

Yes. I’m sure he can offer his opinion but he won’t be the one making the decision.

3 weeks to national signing day and the Coaches Convention wraps up today as well.

Would expect DL/LB coaching hires soon

LB coach at Liberty had an offer from Wisconsin to join their staff. Was Grad assistant at Bama before he was hired by Freeze at Liberty. Was DL grad assistant at Alabama in 2017-2018.

From Liberty page:

Kyle Pope – Linebackers Coach

Kyle Pope, Liberty's new linebackers coach, brings experience at the highest level of collegiate football after spending the last two seasons at Alabama.

Pope served as a defensive line graduate assistant for Alabama during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, helping the Crimson Tide to back-to-back College Football Playoff national championship game appearances and the 2017 national title.

Pope has a familiarity with Liberty after he spent the 2016 season at Presbyterian as a defensive line coach.

Prior to coaching at Presbyterian, Pope served on staff at Holmes Community College as a defensive line coach and at West Alabama as an outside linebackers coach.

During his time at both Holmes and West Alabama, Pope was responsible for a number of different tasks on defense side of the ball, while also assisting with special teams at both stops. His duties included recruiting, breaking down opponents' film and preparing practice plans, while working to develop his student-athletes.

Pope graduated from Jacksonville State in May 2015 with a degree in exercise science and wellness with a concentration in human performance. He was a four-year player for the Gamecocks (2011-14), helping Jacksonville State to the NCAA FCS Playoffs in 2013 and 2014.
