I admit that I do t follow the ladies super closely...but the performance so far this year seems really disappointing.
Am I wrong?
Was a big drop off to be expected?

Very disappointing, I really thought this year's lady Blazers were a talented team. They look to have a seasoned, talented team but have lost to some pretty bad teams.

Looks like they were picked 4th preseason by the conference teams and are currently in a 3 way tie for last place.

RE: Ladies lose at Marshall, 61-56 - WhatIsThisFeeling - 01-13-2020 05:36 PM

We start all seniors this year with some bench help. It is disappointing so far.
Right now if they aren't shooting well they will usually lose the game. Some teams seem to have us figured out and make us perform really bad and then some games (ex Marshall) we cant hit the broad side of a barn. Just a weird year for them.

I thought they'd be competing for a conference title. Disappointing start.

Our one ladies team sport that was decent. Hopefully they turn it around.

In 2019 UAB didn't make the CUSA tournament (much less actual post-season) in:

Baseball
Softball
Men's soccer
Women's soccer
Volleyball.

How are we doing in Beach VB, Bowling and Rifle?

I think they are doing pretty well, especially Rifle...

I like Norton. He has turned the program around in spite of the deficiencies in facilities and conference.

RE: Ladies lose at Marshall, 61-56 - the_blazerman - 01-14-2020 02:10 PM

He is in the same boat as Ehsan in regards to facilities, conference, etc. & has done pretty good.

I like the players that are on the team and hope that they get it going come conference tournament time.

Yea but you get more scholarships with the women and there is a larger gap between the elite and the bad IMHO. You get a good team and you will win 20+

How strong is WBB in Alabama high schools? I recall some of the better instate players going out of state for P5 conference programs (LSU & UTK).so UAB may be getting the "left overs" if we can't recruit the better out of state players.

Certainly better than it used to be but as you mentioned the better players go out of state.

I think we are mainly competing with those who are in our conference and holding our own.

From the looks of it, we’ve spent more time in Illinois in the prior two classes than anywhere else.

The 2019 class had 3 signed from Illinois, 1 from Wisconsin and Iowa

This is also true.
With 3 of our coaches all coming from those areas I guess that makes since. They have grabbed a few from the Bham area but not many.

Randy Norton has an excellent reputation and strong relationships here in Iowa
