Ladd Peebles Stadium - Cajuns1252 - 01-07-2020 11:11 AM

South a was never excited about y’all getting a new stadium until lastnight. I never realized how out of date and poorly ran the stadium was.

Went to all 4 bowl games and Ladd was not pleasant. But, I suspect they also saw no reason to update or upgrade since they have known for a while they were losing tenants. I suspect if USA and the Sr. Bowl had stayed, they would have made some updates.

2 funny stories. One of our games a bunch of teenagers got into a brawl in the stands and another one of our bowl games, 2 guys wandered into the ASU section and one guy started lighting a pipe. I tapped his shoulder and told him "Not here man, go over there if you want to hit that." He just politely nodded and left.

Ladd had a big upgrade in 1997, completely rebuilt the press box, concourses and concession areas, locker rooms, the whole works. That was 10 years before South decided to add football. Since 1997, there has been a couple small things done, mostly paint, but nothing else has been done to that stadium. The stadium is beyond past its prime and the city isn’t in a position to maintain, much less update, the stadium. Currently Mobile also has an empty baseball stadium, empty civic center and convention center that it is also maintaining. We have a cruise terminal that sat empty for a year or two as well before the city re-established cruise services for the city.

Mobile is facility rich, cash poor, and no teams to fill these buildings to help pay any bills on them.

I enjoyed the two times I attended bowl games in Mobile, and thought that it was a nice city, but could tell it was declining. I did think it had a lot of potential. Without $$$, that potential can't be realized though. And a declining population for the city doesn't help either. It's tough that the city is losing its football stadium and baseball stadium tenants in the same year. The Civic and Convention Centers can still have concerts and conference/events to help with maintaining them.

No way, Jose. The Ladd board, nor the city councilors had any plans to upgrade. They were never interested in upgrading Ladd. They're the ones that let it get in that deplorable condition.

I love the city of Mobile it was just crash to see them still tearing the stub of the ticket instead of scanning them, also they ran almost completely out of beer before half time

I'm happy USA can get away from that dump now.

UAB is moving into their stadium in 2021 and I think the Birmingham Bowl is contracted at Legion Field through 2022. After that, Legion is probably done for too.

That can't happen fast enough. Been to 2 bowls in the last 4 years there, and that place is.... well.... there is LITERALLY a chain link fence around the football field proper.

They scan tickets for South games. They must have had issues, like they did with the play clock. In our last game against Ark State, they had to reboot the scoreboard. We wasted money on a maritime museum that no one hardly ever visits. I don't think we have had official announcement of Senior Bowl moving.

I see why yall call it Sadd Peoples... I have been to 5 different bowl games in my life and I have never seen anything like that in my life. People around the stadium were extremely nice but man felt like I was at a high school event.

Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to going down there for the game next season.

RE: Ladd Peebles Stadium - AppManDG - 01-09-2020 10:39 AM

Sad to see these historic facilities neglected and eventually torn down.

RE: Ladd Peebles Stadium - kevinwmsn - 01-09-2020 02:23 PM

I doubt the City of Mobile will ever tear it down or fix it up right, they will let it rot like they have.
