RE: UT Men@Kent State Thread - Dwight - 01-07-2020 08:42 PM

Kent with a couple of bonehead quick shots. Won't make a difference, though.

RE: UT Men@Kent State Thread - Springboromark - 01-07-2020 08:46 PM

A promising start at 8-2, now this.

RE: UT Men@Kent State Thread - SylvaniaRocket - 01-07-2020 08:46 PM

Rockets down by 10. 1 minute to go.

RE: UT Men@Kent State Thread - UofToledoFans - 01-07-2020 08:54 PM

42-16 in favor of KSU in the paint.

About 6 dunks for Kent.

84-77 Flashes final.

Our computer ranking is still above like 125 which is far off the way we've been playing.
My guess is 84-69 Kent. Prove me wrong.

I need three hours to get my evidence together but I WILL prove you wrong!

See? Seriously, not a bad prediction!

Sounds reasonable.

I am wondering and scratching my head all at the same time, is it time for O'Brien to retire ?

RE: UT Men@Kent State Thread - Springboromark - 01-07-2020 09:21 PM

Well, they can right the ship for a little while the next 2 home games, we will see.

Bingo. Bring in a young guy who's ready to kick butt and clean house. At least when the long-term contracts are up.

Well, in that case, Coach K, perhaps you’ve proven to be a not-so-great judge of the heart & character of all those you recruited here.

Lead, Coach K. This bs you’ve been using to try to “motivate” players on your team in such a public fashion is NOT leadership.

This motivation tactic that K is employing, may have, or already has had an adverse effect on this team...

A strong choice of words by the coach...
Maybe K should step back and let these kids have fun/play the game/be competitive/ and at the end of the day know they did their best ... Even if this years edition of Rocket basketball is not adopting the attitude of not playing hard enough, and having your hearts torn out with every loss mantra... So what !!
As long as these kids walk away from UT with a diploma in hand, and become productive members of society, in their minds, success has been achieved...
Lately, I believe K is feeling frustrated and feels that window of opportunity to upgrade himself, or at least retain his present gig may be eluding him...

This team has some talent. But we just can't get it to all come together on the same night. Of our starters you can pretty much guarantee two of the five will be on, but the other three lack zero consistency. The two Jacksons pretty much bring it every night. The other three is a crap shoot. How does Knapke only have 7 points? Alderson and Littleson are either in major slumps, or they just aren't D1 material. Everyone in the MAC has a better bench than ours. How does coach go from raving about the leadership on this team to making comments about players not caring about losing. Starts right at the top on that one. Leadership is easy when things are going well. A true sign is how you lead when $hit starts to hit the fan.

Wellll .... at least it's obvious who is driving the bus03-banghead

As for the team, pre-season Jackson-Jackson-Knapke were considered to be three sure All-MAC (first or second team) players with no other MAC team having three sure things. Kent has 5-players averaging in double figures. And while it's a sure bet one of them will be All-MAC, good luck picking out that one, and pick 2 more All-MAC's from the rest.

Point is ... five guys in doubles is tougher to deal with than three monsters. Toledo last season basically had five guys in doubles, and were tough to beat in the MAC. This season, so far, not so much.

RE: UT Men@Kent State Thread - Dwight - 01-08-2020 06:46 AM

We lost on the road to a superior team. No need to jump down the players' throats. TK's job success depends on the performance of a bunch of 18- to 22-year-olds, and it is clear that he is getting frustrated verging on desperate.

Interesting contrast to Cullop, who can be maddeningly upbeat after losses. After the women's loss at Western Michigan, Cullop was quoted in The Blade saying that she was proud of her players for not giving up.

RE: UT Men@Kent State Thread - T4C8 - 01-08-2020 08:20 AM

Interesting quote

But anyway, as opposed to the four prior losses, I felt we actually looked like a basketball team last night. Gives me a little more hope for MAC play.

RE: UT Men@Kent State Thread - Boca Rocket - 01-08-2020 08:29 AM

Game was very winnable with about 6 minutes to go.
Rockets then self destructed. Got lazy on defense a few times defending the three. Knapke seemed to back off on Offense and Defense after picking up the early fouls. Rockets passing game seemed in slow motion like they were going through practice drills.
Need to do a better job quickly kicking the BB back out when the defense collapses on the inside. Just not doing enough of the right things to win when the game is on the line.

She always says that.
