It depends if Mississippi State is willing to pay stupid money. I don’t think they are for Clark but if they offer north of 4 million he’s out the door. They were paying under three

Why be concerned? If Clark leaves he leaves. The program goes on. He has done his job and stayed committed to UAB even after being back stabbed by the BOT and President.

Does Moo U really want to make a hire from a team that just got smacked around by Kiffin and a 1st game head coach?
I’m more worried about getting our hoops program straight. Whatever happens with Clark, our program will be left in the best shape it’s ever been in. Yes, it’s terribly late for a school like UAB to find a decent replacement and I certainly don’t want to promote from within. I like Reeves, but that coordinator money Clark would offer him elsewhere would be much better than he’d get on an initial contract with UAB. Clark’s way down the list for ADs right now, so sit comfortably.
Napier did just turn them down.

Back in 1964 I worked with a couple of Miss State grads who told me their favorite mantra -- "You flunk a course at Miss State, your pass it at Ole Miss and you teach it at Southern Miss". In the decades since then, the program has been a "stepping stone job" (like the present Florida coach as well as Darryl Royal and Emory Bellard (who invented the "Wishbone" offense) or you get fired (as happened today). I don't recall any coach staying there for a career retirement after a stint of many years in Starkville.

I think Clark stays here for at least 2 to 3 more seasons.
First, he truly cares about what has happened at UAB and in Birmingham the past 5 years. This is historic and the influence and meaning for the city and school transcend football. I see him as a guy who understands there are deeper benefits occuring than UAB winning ballgames and building facilities.
Second, I think he is truly curious to see what heights he can scale at a school like UAB. He’s a smart guy. He knows he is the football version of our beloved Gene Bartow. He knows that statues will come one day. What will be written on the plaque beside the statue? I think he would like to see it say that he took UAB to national competitiveness, to include top 10 rankings and New Years bowls and a better conference. I read him as a guy who might find that more satisfying than trying to push a low tier SEC school to compete with the existing power structures in that corrupt cesspool of a conference.
Third, as has been said by many others, I suspect he is all in on getting this stadium launched and enjoying that with his staff and team for at least a couple of seasons.
Fourth, although he has done a phenomenal job as UABs coach in the most difficult of circumstances, its apparent that he still has room to grow and improve as a college coach. He has yet to post a nationally impressive win against a name team or even any P5 team. His teams are not always ready to play, and he has had several WTF losses (Coastal) or skin of our teeth wins (Alabama St) vs inferior opponents. His staff was thoroughly outcoached by Kiffins staff in the championship game, and that conference peer beat us like a drum for the championship when we were near full strength as a team. Kiffins offensive scheme completely neitralized Clarks top 20 defense, and their defense shut us down by overwhelming us at the line of scrimmage. It looked like a men against boys game. The first MTSU game last year and the USM game this year were similar. App St was a much better game, but our lack of on field discipline and poor offensive line play contributed heavily to UAB losing a winnable game.
He has recruited well the past two years, but not as well as Kiffin and some other CUSA coaches. There are a lot of talented Alabama players on the FAU roster. Its possible he is overly loyal to some long time colleagues on staff who arent the best fit for their current roles. He will eventually have to fire or reassign some people he really likes to continue to grow the program. Of course he also has to balance that with cultivating the necessary chemistry and loyalty to keep the UAB assistants that others want. His offenses in the past 3 years have been mediocre and predictable, and he has not yet shown that his program can target, recruit and develop the most important position group out of high school, the offensive line. Finally, his offenses have struggled to score against talented defenses and would not translate well to the SEC.
That said, its also my read that he will continue to learn and grow beyond most or all of those challenges and will become an eventual top 15 coach in the nation. But others are watching and see both the potential and the need for some additional growth. I dont think anyone is yet willing to offer $4M a year in hopes of 9 SEC wins by year 2. But eventually they will, and he will have to decide what he will find most satisfying long term. He might decide to stay and build a deep legacy at UAB. Or, if he continues to succeed and grow he might follow Gus Malzahn or Will Muschamp when those programs finally run out of patience with their current coaches in a few years.

what about Jackie Sherrill?
I thought he had a career there.
