An early look at the Future of AAC Basketball - pesik - 12-29-2019 12:08 AM

Just seeing how this season is going and who is shinning, this has to be encouraging for the future of the league

--almost non of the best performing players are seniors -- the majority of players we are excited about as fans are sophomores or younger.

--our best 3 teams are extremely young, all 3 could be in for multi year runs depending on the draft

--despite not being as top heavy as other years, this has been (is) one of our best years since inception, and not counting mass exodus from a coach firing and surprise draft entries.. we look to be way better next year

-- Cincy and temple are the only 2 you can make an argument that they will be worse next year (not counting surprises)..temple is simply because they have no one touted coming in, a touted transfer/recruit or 2 and theyd look better...and cincy is completely up in the air, they are the onnly only senior heavy aac team, but they have a good recruiting class as is and it isnt even finished yet

RE: An early look at the Future of AAC Basketball - stxrunner - 12-29-2019 12:22 AM

Before the season, I’d have said this was crazy, but so far in our performance this year, our seniors are by far the worst performing players on our team. Cumberland, Scott, McNeal have been awful. Jaevin has been very much up and down. Sorolla has been solid but isn’t a high usage player.

Just based on results to date, I have a good argument we will actually be a lot better next year, albeit with a lower ceiling. If the seniors start clicking during the conference season, then there will be a drop off.

Your assessment of ECU is a little off. We have a 7 foot freshman coming in for next year and will likely have one or two more players add to the roster. ECU has started out slow due to injuries, players learning to play together, and a bad apple in the locker room. The bad apple (the lone senior) has been kicked off the team and our PG is playing now and probably somewhere around 90% and we are getting closer to be a true team and learning how to play together. We will surprise some teams in conference this year, especially near the end of the season, and will be a lot better next year. Dooley will not be imploding the roster this year just moving around some small pieces to get the full team he needs. Don’t sleep on the Pirates, just like football we are going to be very strong in 2020-2021.

I sincerely like the optimism of ECU fans. Hopes are sometimes realized. One need look no further than the Tigers improbable turnaround in football and rebuild from Tubby’s destruction.

Just let him cook. He thinks he knows so much about ECU, but it is clear that he does not know what he is writing about. He actually wrote in one of his posts that all of the JUCOs that ECU brought in were failures. When it is clear just by watching ECU that two JUCOs (Robinson and Jackson) are easily among the best players on the team. If Robinson was fully healthy then he would be an all conference level player, but they still have him on minute restrictions and he will probably not be fully healthy until the Summer.

Two other JUCOs, Miles and Baruti have not turned out the way people expected, but Baruti had a really good game yesterday and hopefully he can carry that forward.

Once you see ECU in conference play then you will see what Pirate fans see. They are not bad, they just needed to get healthy. They are not going to win the conference, but they have some very good underclassmen.

if you are going to quote me, quote me correctly...i said all the ecu jucos were flops in comparison to the expectation they had preseason...i 10000% stand by that

in that SAME POST i said tremont robinson will likley be decent when healthy but unlikely to meet the expectation he had preseason (which was potential all conference type player)..he will not be anywhere close..there are other all-conference players battling injury and performing

pig was on your team as you comfortably lost to to multiple 300 rpi team

last 2 points:
1) my takes on ecu this preseason were dramatically more accurate that of any ecu fan ..while almost every take by ecu fans were wrong

2) you are way too easily impressed. you have a 250-ish team and still hyping up multiple players. from your posts, including gardner and the freshman, you think ecu has 5/6 really good players. a team with 5/6 really good players isnt a 250-ish team..

ecu's on 4 game streak so you are hyped about ecu again.. ignoring they were all mid-major and half were horrible
just yesterday, you played a horrible 300 rpi team, you won, but in your enthusiasm no where mentioning you were down 7 at half and needed a comback vs a 300rpi team

i dont care about overhyped ecu expectations, its what yall do--- only responding because of the digs towards me

RE: An early look at the Future of AAC Basketball - oasispirate - 12-29-2019 11:18 AM

I am guilty of over hyping ecu hoops this past summer. But make no mistake, not being healthy has cost at minimum 3-4 games imo. So I don't think it's fair to look at us a 6-7 team. If we add 2-3 more key pieces next year I could see us being pretty good. The league will be stronger though.

People will learn the name Quincy Ademokoya very quickly. There's a reason at least a half dozen P5 schools in the south wanted him to reclassify or sign late.

when i say implode, i mean keep the good players, and the rest will find themselves in the transfer portal, i dont mean getting a full set of new players..my point was youll find roster room

i also didnt list everyones freshmen (or seniors)..i used noteable to hint that ..you are fiifi only legit offer (3 other offers but low major), and you have 3 7footers, none are seniors ...fiifi likely won't see much minutes as a freshmen

Relax Pesik. When you've been as terrible as we have throughout our history some hype and expectations after a few wins, even against terrible teams, is natural and healthy. We have to learn HOW to win, don't you get that?

By the way, your posts are still hard as **** to read. Its like you beat your keyboard with a hammer.

Down 7 at half, but win by 8 at the final buzzer so what difference did it make? They won. That is all that matters. I think they did pretty good considering that the point guard is still on minutes restrictions.

How many all conference players had surgery on a dislocated ankle back in the Summertime? Because Robinson did and despite that fact and the fact that he is still on minutes restrictions; he had 5 steals yesterday against a small quick pressing EKU team, while still playing on said bum wheel. Robinson was literally the fastest guy on the floor and he is still not fully healthy according to Dooley.

https://247sports.com/college/east-carolina/Article/East-Carolina-Pirates-Basketball-Tyrie-Jackson-Tremont-Robinson-White-Injuries-Rhythm-Joe-Dooley-141247071/

The key for these guys is to keep grinding. They are not going to win the league, but they are competing very hard.

pig was on your team as you comfortably lost to to multiple 300 rpi team

last 2 points:
1) my takes on ecu this preseason were dramatically more accurate that of any ecu fan ..while almost every take by ecu fans were wrong

2) you are way too easily impressed. you have a 250-ish team and still hyping up multi players. from your posts, including gardner and the freshman, you think ecu has 5/6 really good players. a team with 5/6 good players isnt a 250-ish team..

ecu's on 4 game streak so you are hyped about ecu again.. ignoring they were all mid-major and half were horrible

just yesterday, you played a horrible 300 rpi team, you won, but in your enthusiasm no where mentioning you were down 7 at half and needed a comback vs a 300rpi team

i dont care about overhyped ecu expectations, its what yall do--- only responding because of the digs towards me

ECU does look bad if you go by the record. But from the iffs and buts category the team and lineups now I truly believe there would be 5 more wins on the slate. The 2 injured guards are starting to play like predicted. There is some front court versatility and most importantly harder effort on defense and the boards. This group will fight for balls and block out.

The team will still struggle on the road unless there is a second go to shooter to emerge and unless they improve the perimeter defense a great deal more. But, at home ECU is gonna be a tough out most nights. Still conference play will be a great challenge.

Tulsa has already signed one player for next year, three star guard out of Illinois Keyshawn Williams. Some have him as the third best player in Illinois and he had numerous offers including Colorado and K-State. We should be really stacked at guard but will be very weak inside unless a big surprise happens in the spring signing period.

UCF has 2 high 3 star freshman incoming, Jamille Reynolds and Isaiah Adams. Also what players are you implying are going to transfer? Only players not getting a lot of minutes are Tony Johnson (A freshman pg that will get minutes next year) and Moses Bol, who is apparently not ready for D1 hoops yet.

Appreciate the broadly optimistic tone of this thread.

All 3 top teams (Mem, WSU, UH) lost key personnel, but are top 25 to top 30 quality.

UCF has completely exceeded everyone's expectations. It's almost miraculous that Dawkins has gotten this group of newcomers & transfers to 9-3.

Few would have expected Temple to start out 8-3 and 3-3 Q1/Q2 with a rookie HC.

Nine conference teams are 8-4 or better, and the #12 team is only one game back of .500. That's a solid start.

============================================

With regard to Temple, the picture may be a bit brighter than suggested above.

Because Coach McKie's key to success this season involves playing his full roster, the team will have 9 very experienced players returning next season, including five seniors and 1 junior. In addition, the Owls roster will include a 10th experienced player - - Tai Strickland, a Big 10 transfer (RS sophomore) from Wisconsin.

Two of Temple's other three freshmen have played more minutes than expected and have surpassed pre-season expectations. Each has played a key role in helping the team win one or more games to date. The other will be returning to the team soon after a preseason injury, but has a skill set suggesting that he can be relied upon to help fill the gap that will be left by the departure of Quinton Rose.

Two of the incoming Owl recruits are dynamic scorers who are expected to add the kind of scoring punch, energy, and athleticism that will be needed to bolster the SG and wing positions. Coach McKie fill the remaining roster position with a capable player during the late signing period or through the transfer portal. His success with the team to date suggests that the programs recruiting prospects will be solid.

The team will be well balanced, with experienced bench players at all five positions. The team's ability to hold opponents to 62 ppg thus far is likely to continue into the 2020-21 season, due to the roster continuity.

It's amazing how much ECU discussion occurs in these threads for a perennial 250+ program.

Not as amazing as seeing Wichita State fans showing up in football threads.
